When signing up for new phone service, I would like to have my number listed in the directory under a ficticious name for security reasons and only give it out to certain people. Is this possible. Would the phone company ask for ID?

I have an 070 number on my itemised bill. I know it is a 'personal numbering service' number but I don't know what that is.

I don't recall phoning it and it has increased my phone bill by about £10 in one day!

Is it a scam? or could it have something to do with the new answerphone I installed?

Hope you can help me please.

I just received a phone call, whereby NO ONE spoken a single word from the other side. I then did "1471" & was said that the number that called me was: 05010 (telephone number that last called me i.e. my landline)

Would anyone have any idea what sort of call would that be & whether it'd be worth returning this call by pressing 3 ???
