Here's a website that gives you a few options ;)

Some of which include ...

Ask him/her to marry you. When they get all flustered, tell them that you could not just give your credit card number to a complete stranger.

This works great if you are male: Telemarketer: "Hi, my name is Judy and I'm with XYZ Company..." You: (Wait for a second) With a real husky voice ask, "What are you wearing?"

Ask them to repeat everything they say, several times.

Tell them it is dinner time, BUT ask if they would please hold. Put them on your speaker phone while you continue to eat at your leisure. Smack your food loudly and continue with your dinner conversation.

Make sure you register for telemarketers, not for research. They are not included in research since research is done for product improvement or government improvement and is voluntary - unlike a telemarketer that won't get you off the phone.

I work in research and if someone says put me on the DNC list, we have to - you stay on the list for 6 months for that company alone. We then register it nationally too. It takes 3 weeks to process.

For telemarketers, you say the same thing and they legally have to but I think it is for a long time.

The device gets rid of predictive dialers, not telemarketers. Most use both auto dial and predictive dial to get past the devices.

You can use the national do not call list, which I am sure you know about.

If you don't want to get caller ID, then you're stuck answering the phone all the time - except when you don't want to talk to anyone.

If you know it's a telemarketer when you say hello, based on their voice or the way they don't know how to say your name, just keep repeating, "Hello. Hello? Hello?" a few times and hang up. Act like nobody is there and they will wonder what's wrong with their headset. At least for ten seconds, they will.

Register with the U.S. National Do Not Call Registry (it's a free service). We did many years ago and the telemarketing calls have stopped. We do still get non-telemarketing charitable & political organization calls ocassionally.

For more details & to register: https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx

The do not call list works great. We have an unpublished, unlisted number and still get a few marketing people. The last time we did, I asked him how he got our number and he said their list is on a rotary basis and everyone gets calls. But the do not call list severely limits the nuisance calls.

Just simply attend to the call. Ask the telemarketer from where he/she call and what is the purpose of the call.

Then gently reply back to him/her with nobodies business. You can start with.... "you f**k**g freak, don't call me anymore" or "you dumb @$$, put down the phone" or so on........

When a telemarketer calls, apply them their own medicine: Ask he/she her/his name, charge, direct number and let her/him hung on line while you are "consulting with the home-items purchase department" After that, ask for the same data again and "transfer" the call to your supervisor, and on and on. Finally, let him/her know that you are not able to take that decisions, but eventually you'll call back.

Hope it helps

Unplug the phone or turn off the ringer. Call the "do not call number" and register.
