I do not have caller ID, and don't want it. The phone company said there is nothing they can do. *69 always says the number is not available. What can I do? I don't want to get a new number!! It's been happening for about 1 month, 3-5 times a day!!

A call comes in, you answer it, you want to transfer it to a different phone number, you hit the flash button on your phone, you hear three beeps then a dial tone, you dial the new number someone answers, you hang up and the original caller is connected to that 3rd party.

What is that called? Call forwarding? 3 way calling? I need to explain to my phone company this is what I want to activate the "flash" button option on my phone so I can do this.

I'm with BT. If I answer the phone it goes dead and when I dial 1471 The caller has withheld their number. Most of the time it only rings a couple of times and then stops. It started a few weeks back but I'm getting more and more calls each day!

Sometime ago in the news there was a guy who had found a way around the automatic telephone systems. I recall that this fellow had reported on techniques to speed the caller through the lengthy button pressing procedures and also get through all of the advertising crap that you have to put up with that is foisted on you when all you really want is to talk to someone quickly.

Also, he had an extensive list of the direct telephone numbers which would not normally be available for those organisations who have seen fit to make all of their customers have to phone infuriating call centres, this being the only interface that they offer.

Does anyone else recall this and do you know where I can find the information?
