The volume on my home telephone is too low. I have just bought a new phone and the volume is still low! This is with the volume turned up too the max. I have to strain to hear. Do I have bad wiring?

We're in a dispute over the time someone arrived for a service. Our caller id, still shows one call but not the one we need. We have the number, date, and time of day, seems like on Law and Order they do this just wondering it the technology is there, and easily available. Wish they would have called my cell, since that does keep a log.

My home phone stopped working about 2 weeks ago. I can make calls usually, but I do not receive incoming calls. Someone came to supposedly fix the problem. They could not figure out how to repair the old jacks, so they left them like they were and installed 3 new ones. Calls can be made on the new ones and one of the old ones, but NONE of them receive calls. If you dial my number you hear static and then the call is disconnected. This happens when dialing from a cell or landline phone. What might the problem be? (It is not the actual phone, I have 2 & niether of them are working in any of the jacks.) Is this an electical problem in my house, as I suspect, or could the phone company be responsible?

I live in the UK and want to call a friend abroad as they do not have Internet. I believe BT charges 66p per minute for landlines, and i need to call a mobile. I've seen these websites saying that you can call abroad for a very cheap rate without subscribing or paying for anything. Are these legitimate? Are they governed? Will I get a nasty surprise on my phone bill?

Thanks for your time!

My old Sony had this feature. A lot of cell phone calls come in as out of area, etc. If I program the number in the phone book and the name that I want it to show, I know immediately if I want to answer that call. I have a day care and I need to know if it is a parent calling, otherwise, I may not answer the call due to my busy schedule.

I work on reception and use a PABX switch for the past week the display that shows incoming/outgoing calls doesn't work so I can't see which ext I'm puting customers through too or if it's an internal call. The rest works fine all other lights etc. A tech pushed a few buttons and checked the main board, I think it's some sort of board that shows all the phones operating off the PABX. He can't work it out. What is wrong with the display and how can we fix it?

I just recently got setup to work from home, I work for a call center and when using my headset I pick up two different radio stations on it...I can barely hear the customers when they call in. Should I call the phone company or is there something I should be able to do to remedy it?

For about the past 9 months my home phone rings 3 seperate times for about 2 rings each every day about the same time. I called the phone company and the suggested I change my number. I can't change my number, they can't help me. Is this some sort of computer generated wake up service or Gov. plot to drive me crazy? It's not so bad to get a wake up call at 6 A.M. but when we have a time change it's going to be 5 A.M. and on Sunday that is to darn early. Any idea what is going on here? Did I piss off some telemarketer?

They are repeated over and over and many are by the same number. The callers are foreign and generally it is to sell pharmacy products.

When an offer is made, in good faith, and people decide, rather than simply ignore it, to insult the person making the offer, why do they not leave any contact details for further discussion?

The company I'm with offers line rental, up to 8meg broadband and free weekend calls with NO minimum contract. If you have your gas and electricity with them, too, it becomes free landline calls 24/7 - again with no minimum contract.
If you want to try them, give me a bell on 0800 298 2384 - or email me - and, once you've switched I'll send you a crisp £20 note, by registered post, to you. No catch, no commitment. I use them, and so does my Dad, family and friends.
