I have several UK landline numbers that keep calling and hanging up. When ever I call back there is no answer and no voicemail option. I have reported the issue to my service provider.

Are there any free web based services which allow you to search by a phone number to find out who is calling? There are hundreds of services for the US which do this, but I cant find any for the UK.

My Dad has so many telemarketers call his house all hours of the day and night. He is 74 years old and doesn't need to be bothered with these calls all the time. I heard on the radio a while back that there is a number you can call to block these people. Does anyone know what it is?

Is it alright to record a phone conversation if they record you? Example: whenever I call a company / customer service they usually say "this message is being recorded for (whatever reason they give).

I have been lied to in the past by a company who recorded the message but I can't prove the lie unless I record it also.

I am not able to access my phone lines. When you push the "talk" button, the phone reads "UNAVAILABLE". I am not able to make or receive any phone calls on it. I have tried unplugging the sets and taking the batteries out but it still won't work. Can't find the original instructions and am at a loss as to what to do. Anyone out there know how to fix this problem or can point me in the righit direction. Thanks.

We were just a couple of weeks late paying our bill and now they've cut the bloody phone (land line) off!!!! Can't dial out or receive calls! And they want a reconnection fee which we can't afford to pay.

My BF only went with them because they sent some smarmy git around our street promising "cheaper" phone bills if we switched from BT to them (actually they weren't cheaper at all, they were atrocious.)

Any advice? Yeah "Pay the phone bill and recon fee" I know - well we can't at the moment. I want to go back to BT but they won't take us on until we clear the bill with Talk Talk will they? I need a phone up and running as I'm due to give birth very soon and need to be able to get in touch with my family, doctor, hospital etc at short notice and possibily in an emergency!!!

In the novel I'm writing, a person in Washington DC has sent an emergency telegram to an Episcopal mission deaconess in Batesville asking her to call. Batesville is approximately 30 miles from Charlottesville.

I know most Customer Services are dreadful but has anyone else had specific dealings with Talk Talk? We have had two problems. The first one we ended up resolving ourselves in desperation. The second one we reported in mind-numbing detail on Saturday morning. Woman (in South Africa) said she would ring back at 12 noon.
Still waiting.

I've already tried the GE site, which has the caller id box and says you can download the manual, but the link doesn't work. I received a Spanish manual from the company -- nothing in English. This is very frustrating!!

PS I've also tried to call GE -- can't get through! Any help would be appreciated -- thanks :)

I recently discovered that a phone jack in my house was never actually hooked up to anything. It looks like a simple job to hook up a jack if one has the standard 4 wires. Unfortunately, I have 12, all different colors. I can't figure out which to use. I looked at another jack in the house and it had two grey wires with white stripes connected to the jack's red wire and two white with grey connected to the jack's green. The wall where I'm trying to hook up the jack has only one grey with white and only one white with grey. I'm just puzzled. Any informed suggestions would be welcome. Thanks!

Okay, so since I'm finding phones with good reviews in some places, not so good in others (basically a mix all across the board) I'm not sure quite what to get or where to find info and look. We need a 5.8 GHz cordless phone, multiple lines is NOT a necessity, with caller ID, and a good battery life (9 hours min) and good range. The one complaint from different people on different phones seems to be the range - for some reason I've come across two different reviews for phones that state something along the lines that the phone has only a 15 yard range (and mind you these reviews come from different people and are almost the only bad review to the good ones). Suggestions/thoughts/opinions?
