I recently discovered that a phone jack in my house was never actually hooked up to anything. It looks like a simple job to hook up a jack if one has the standard 4 wires. Unfortunately, I have 12, all different colors. I can't figure out which to use. I looked at another jack in the house and it had two grey wires with white stripes connected to the jack's red wire and two white with grey connected to the jack's green. The wall where I'm trying to hook up the jack has only one grey with white and only one white with grey. I'm just puzzled. Any informed suggestions would be welcome. Thanks!

Listen here ace. Connect the red and green wires from your jack to the two wires that are grey and white. The mostly grey goes to the red on the jack and the mostly white goes with the green. If this does not work, then do the same using the blue and white in place of the grey...It's that simple.....Keck

It should be the blue with white stripe wire and white with blue stripe wire. But yours may not follow the standard. Easiest thing to do is plug the phone into the jack, take the phone off-hook and try each combination of wires until you get a dial tone.

You just got in the middle of the "daisy chain" and the one that is not connected is at the end. Just hook the one (each) to the red and green as the other jack has the two.

Ask the local phone co. or one of their service techs? There should only be a couple of the wires you need to use?
