If you get a bill each month then a couple of weeks is almost time for the next bill. If you get a bill each quarter then was the 'couple of weeks' from the bill or the reminder? Either way you had time to pay and didn't.
As for 'going back' to BT can you appreciate their reluctance to take you back? How about if you ran a business and a 'new' customer turned up because they didn't pay the previous business they employed? Would YOU want to risk it?
Sorry. There's no one to blame but yourself. Sell your computer, cancel your broadband and then you'll have enough for your phone bill.

The worst company to go with is HOME CALL.. We thought we had cancelled before the time limit thing was up but hadn't (we were would you believe half hour over the time limit). We then had to pay the BT bill and the HOME CALL one - which was double the BT bill.

You can still go with BT they wont know or care about your talk talk bill as long as you don't owe BT any money, or you can go on either Telewest or NTL depending on what its called in your area, they will accept anybody as long as you pay by direct debit.
Also you could get a Skype account and make phone calls from your P.C.
Hope one of these helps!

Check out TESCO. A couple of months ago when I was checking this out they were the very cheapest way to have a pay as you go phone as long as you didn't want to go roaming in other countries. Order on line or in store.
