My home phone stopped working about 2 weeks ago. I can make calls usually, but I do not receive incoming calls. Someone came to supposedly fix the problem. They could not figure out how to repair the old jacks, so they left them like they were and installed 3 new ones. Calls can be made on the new ones and one of the old ones, but NONE of them receive calls. If you dial my number you hear static and then the call is disconnected. This happens when dialing from a cell or landline phone. What might the problem be? (It is not the actual phone, I have 2 & niether of them are working in any of the jacks.) Is this an electical problem in my house, as I suspect, or could the phone company be responsible?

No matter how many lines you have, there is one single place that routes all calls. It sounds to me like you have a short in the junction box. The person who came didn't really check the box, or if he did it was for outgoing service. If he/she just tied into the same junction box with three new lines, that wouldn't fix anything. Company protocol would dictate investigation of outgoing service because that's the billing cycle. Incoming service would not be high priority. Have and independent electrician come in and check it, it will cost you less and be more through.

most likely a short as said above, if you paid for the tech to come out. Call back and complain because he didnt fix the problem. I dont see what was so hard about wireing a jack up. (that **** strikes a nerve, how im have trouble gettin on with a local company and jack *** like that get hired, im a contractor now at a miltary base, no benifits).

Also check to see if your line is set up to only place outgoing calls, sounds strange for a residetial phone to be set up that way but i know i have program some phones on base for recieve only, or outgoing only.

but yea most likely a short

also out side were the cable hit your terminal box there is a place were you can check the line, plug a phone into, (at least the newer ones have it.) if you cant recieve call out there then its definatly the phone companies problem

A lot of times when this happens someone has accidently forwarded their calls to another number. Check with your local phone company to get the code to unforward and try the code to unforward and see if that fixes it.

They're going to say you are responsible for the inside wiring. Unless you paid extra for them to maintain the lines (they ask you when you set up service). I'd suggest you hire your own guy to come fix it, it will be cheaper then having them do it.
