We have been trying to change the phone provider at our flat for over a month. Bulldog acknowledge the line has been disconnected but wont take the markers off the line so that another company can use it. Everytime we phone them they say that the line will be returned in 5 working days. It never is. They say the same thing each time. Help!

I received a phone call when I looked at my caller id the name was my password that I use on a lot of websites. It freaked me out. Just one word. The number was 206-415-9365. I'm afraid it's some kind of identity theft or something. What should I do?

Hey there,
Let me start by telling you that I work for a national company and part of my job is to telephone buisnesses in my city and the surrounding towns. For the most part, it's pretty easy, although there are two seperate issues that I'm having to deal with when it comes to Telephone numbers, specifically Area Codes.

Question #1, WHY do I have to dial the area code for a telephone number THAT'S IN THE SAME AREA CODE AS ME??!?!?!?! This makes no sense. I'm 309, they are 309, why do I have to dial it at all?

Question #2, and this is the one that really makes me mad. Why will the phone company not process a call when I use the area code for a local call? Sometimes when I use an area code, I get a recording that says "We're sorry, but it is not necessary to use the area code with this number." OK, Big Deal, it's not necessary, why can't you just process the call, instead of making me hang up and dial again?

I think the phone company is trying to make me mad.

I was home alone with my 2 year old who was sitting next to me, when the phone rang. I answered it and was talking when it sounded like someone picked it up and started to dial, it stopped and I con't the conversation and hung up. Only the phone would not connect to a dial tone and the screen on the phone said line 2 (phone 2) in use. NO one is home but me and Jack so I went to look for the other phone and I found it and it was in the talk position. No one has been in the room for hours and the phone worked up until that call. Can anyone explain this to me? Is this supernatural or an electrical problem? Any ideas?

I just recieved a call from a friend and told him that I would call him back and thought I had his number written down but I dont. I do not know his last name and when he called it was from a private number. I called quest and they said they cant look it up and *69 does not work either. If anyone knows how to look the number up it would be greatly appriciated. Thank you in advance.

My internet provider is also my telephone service provider. Isn't there some way to see (via the computer?) who's calling without paying the $9 a month service fee. When you contact the telephone company and activate the caller ID feature, what is it exactly they're doing? Are they allowing a signal (ID) to be sent or are they just "unblocking" a signal? It seems like it would be the latter. If so, wouldn't this signal be coming over the phone line that also serves the computer? Surely you guys out there that are much smarter than me have figured this out?
