If you have SBC/AT&T local phone service, you will pay for the service either monthly or pay per use. The cost varies depending on where you live and what else you have on your phone. As a general rule, if you use the service more than 3 times per month and are paying per use, it's better to just add it with the monthly charge and get it for one price with unlimited use.
If you make a local call then there's no additional charge (unless you pay for your outgoing calls). If you make a LD call, then you pay the LD charges, just like you would if you weren't using 3-way.
Hope this helps.

In terms of minutes, it costs double as you are making two calls, plus there could be an additional charge for using the feature.

It depends on which call packages you have, and where you are calling.
If you have no call packages, you will pay for both phone calls by the minute and the 3 way.
If you have an all inclusive plan, you won't pay anything additional.

Nothing is for free, my friend. Call up your phone company the same question. Speak with a Customer Service Representative and he/she will give you the cost(s). :D
