I am getting a digital camera soon and I am really excited, but there's just one catch. I don't know which one to get. There are many different kinds that promise you different things and it's really hard to choose. I really want one that you can take good quality pictures with. I don't know what other features there should be. And I really don't want it to be anywhere near $500. Does anyone know any good cameras, if you do can you send me a link with the info of the camera?

I am traveling to India and was wondering if power converters for American products really did work. I need to charge my digital camera battery, but don't know whether or not the power converter would actually work. Has anyone who has been to India know if the power converter will work for American products?

I'm thinking about buying a DSLR, and right now, the cameras mentioned above are the only ones that fit my budget. Which one do you guys suggest?

Also, would it be worth it to spend a little bit more and buy a Canon 350D? I mean is there any substantial difference?

Thanks.

Anybody have any educated guesses on when it's coming? I want a 5D but I see no reason in buying one now if it's about to be replaced... besides the tremendous price drop on the 5D. Thanks.

I don't know why this didn't dawn on me before tonight, but consider this... The Nikon D3 has a "DX" mode so you can use all of your existing DX lenses on the new camera. If you attach a DX lens, it just crops down to 5 MP to allow for the crop. If you WANT to, though, you can select the DX mode while using a non-DX lens and the camera will still activate this mode.

Why is this cool? You get the 1.5X magnification factor. Suppose you have a 400 mm lens... You can select DX and all of the sudden, you have a 600 mm lens. Yeah, I know that it's the SLR equivalent of "digital zoom," but we are dealing with a 36x24 mm sensor here - not a teeny point and shoot sensor. You end up with a very useable 5.1 MP image at the cropped zoom and that's not bad.

We are all accustomed to this "feature" in our DX sensor (or Canon 1.6X) cameras, but now it is a useful feature in the D3.

Can you do this with a Canon 5D? It would be a very useful feature, in my opinion...

The new Nikon D3 and D300 do not go down to ISO 100 with a direct setting. You use the "expanded range" to drop ISO 200 in 1/3 EV values down to ISO 100. Are they cutting sensor amplification or what? I'm curious...

Can anyone help me where to find the best deal in Toronto for this Nikon D40x? Hopins its much lesser than the one at Best Buy.

And if ever I'm buying at best buy, should I or should I not get the warranty that they offer?

My biggest peeve with my last digital camera (Canon Powershot A100) is that it couldn't take good pictures unless the lighting was perfect. If it was too bright, the pictures would be washed out. If it was too dim (e.g. even in a well-lit room), the pictures would be grainy. When the flash was set to auto mode, it sometimes wouldn't make the best "decision" (i.e. it would flash, the picture would look like crap, and I'd manually disable the flash and get a decent shot). Taking night shots wasn't even a remote possibility.

What good, reliable camera models are better able to adapt to and take good pictures in a variety of lighting conditions? I also want a camera with decent resolution, optical zoom, and that can take macros. My shots are almost always scenic, so whether or not it can take action shots doesn't matter. I never take videos either.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

I have a Chinon CS SLR 35 mm camera with a 50mm standard lens and a 135 mm telephoto. These lenses screw on the camera body. Most newer cameras have bayonet mounts. Can I adapt the existing lenses to fit a digital SLR camera body?
