The G9 is an excellent choice. My absolute top, favorite, number 1, big daddy, numero uno choice in point-and-shoot style cameras.
You can't do better without stepping up to a digital SLR, and then you'll need several hundreds to a couple of thousands of dollars worth of lenses to equal what the G9 can already do.
Buy it. Use it. Enjoy it.
I want one, too, and I've already got five cameras. Seriously.

This is an excellent camera, according to everything I have read. You can't just pick it up and expect to have pro results without knowing anything about photography, but if you know your way around a camera already, you will be able to extract the maximum from the G9.

Yes it is.
Before trying to use it, though, READ & STUDY the Owner's Manual. Learn what the different features are and you'll get the maximum benefit from your camera.
