I'm thinking about buying a DSLR, and right now, the cameras mentioned above are the only ones that fit my budget. Which one do you guys suggest?

Also, would it be worth it to spend a little bit more and buy a Canon 350D? I mean is there any substantial difference?

Thanks.

Nikon D40

I just bought one yesterday, and today I took some pictures with it and tested it out. Let me just say, I've never used a professional camera before but this one is BLOODY AMAZING and easy to use. :]

And the picture quality is fabulous.

Of the three selection, select the Olympus E-410 because of the image stabilization which is applicable to all Zuiko and Leica attachable lenses. You will appreciate image stabilization during low light situations when you are handholding for any length of time. The other two selections, which do not have image stabilization will require the use of a tripod in order to minimize hand shakes. Even though there are VR Nikon auxiliary lenses available for the Nikon D40, they are not cheap.

Good luck!

I am also comparing the D40 and K100D, but bought the D40 since it was on a big sale. Great camera, and not matter which one you go with you will love it. Each might take a short while to master and get good/comfortable with. Just remember that the camera does not make the image, but the photographer ;)

Although nearly everyone says Canon or Nikon, I follow the path less traveled and suggest the Pentax K100D Super or the Sony A100.

The K100D Super is 6.1mp, has dust removal for the sensor, and Image Stabilization (IS) in the camera body. It also accepts every K-mount lens made since 1975. The older lenses will be manual focus, of course, but at least they'll have the benefit of IS.

The A100 is 10mp, has Super Anti-Shake in the camera body, has dust removal for the sensor and accepts every MINOLTA MAXXUM lens made since 1985. You can buy an adapter to use the older MINOLTA MC/MD manual focus lenses on it.

IMO both these cameras offer more features and benefits than their competitors for similar money.

If you'd like to step up in price, check the Sony A700 and the Penrax K10D.
