I'm very interested in photography. Last summer, I borrowed my dad's old 35mm SLR and experimented with it (I wish I could've developed my own film, but alas, I didn't have access to those resources). Now, I'm going to be starting college, and I know I want to have (digital) photography as a hobby, but I'm just not sure if it's worth it to splurge on a D-SLR. Mainly, I'm torn between a Nikon D40, and a model like a Canon Powershot S3 IS (or something similar). I'm concerned that the Canon doesn't provide as good of a picture as the Nikon (thanks to the smaller image sensor), but the Nikon is obviously more expensive.

Any suggestions?

I'm looking for something of GOOD quality but a camera that is also affordable. Approx 5 mega pixels. My camera broke today and I'm a little sick of it to be honest.

Does anyone know what a pop up flash is/how it works on a digital camera. I'm thinking of buying an SLR camera, and it says 'comes with pop-up flash'? any ideas?

I dropped my camera in a chlorine pool. It was at the bottom for a couple of seconds. I took out the batteries and the memory card immediatly and blow dried the camera. I then put everything back in but the camera still wouldnt work. I even tried different batteries. What else is there that i can do?

I am looking at the canon 30d and the canon Mark III cameras and am interested in the USA model only(no grey or import models). Is digicombos.com a reputable place to purchase digital cameras? Their prices seem reasonably priced, maybe a little on the low side- any comments? Are they a canon authorized dealer?

This is especially true if you're asking for people to recommend a camera for you. To answer as well as we can we need to know what you're going to use the camera for, what are your minimum requirements, what is your budget, etc. I would also like answerers to not make recommendations if they don't know anything about cameras or photography, but I guess that's too much to ask. You may like your camera, but it might not be the best one for other people.

We have a Canon Elph, and the LCD display on the back of the camera has a nasty scratch on it. Is there any product out there, that would remove the scratch?

This is not for the lens of the camera...just FYI. The lens is fine. It's the digital LCD display in the back of the camera that is scratched up. Is there a product for LCD displays that gets rid of scratches?

Thanks!

i'm looking for camera bags that provide easy access to my slr, and the lowerpro aw slingshot camera bag (either 100 or 200...haven't quite made my mind up yet) seems to be the best choice so far. i've been looking at pictures of the bag at their website, and there are some lashes on the left side of the bag. i'm wondering, can this bag carry a tripod on the exterior as well? if not, can anyone suggest a bag like the lowerpro slingshot that can? thanks in advance!

A is obviously for Aperture, but does the greater the setting number let more light in or vice versa? There is also an On/Off setting for WL? And a setting On/Off with 2 rectangles overlapping?

I am going to the shanghai gp in october, i have dusted off my canon old eos 30 camera, I currently only have a 28-135 IS USM lens and a 24mm prime. I gave away my 75-300 lens ages ago so i don't have any extreme zoom lens.

What zoom lens do you suggest I rent out for such occasion? I already have an old nikon with a 50mm 1.2 as my secondary and i am not sure of the lenght of zoom lens for my eos.

I will not be on the stands, I will be on the grounds closer to the action, I don't know if anything over 300mm would be easy to work with trying to capture shots of cars going in excess of 200kmh but i do know that 135mm would not give me enough magnifictaion..

Also, should i go for a prime or a zoom? I am not opposed to renting third party brands, if you know of any good quality ones to suggest.

It's a retractable lens (I guess?? I'm not a camera person) but anywho, it was all the way out like I was about to take a picture and I accidentally dropped it on tile floor. Now that just made one of the levels of the retractable lens bend in a little, and it's done that before and I've just popped it back into place (which I'm sure i not the best idea but thats how I learn) so I attempt to pop it back into place and it totally goes way inside and the par t ( I guess the shutter that opens and closes when you turn it on and off) just broke off...all of it still works but when I try to turn it on the lens tries to come out but it can't cause it's stuck inside. So anyway...I haven't messed with it anymore cause apparently I can't fix it but I was wondering how much the repair of this would cost. It's a Canon digital camera if that matters. If this doesn't make sense just e-mail any questions. Thanks for your help.

My camera turns on and says CYBER SHOT then it goes blank and says access, I've waited a long time time and then eventually it says Turn power off and on again, so I do and then the same thing happens. Occasionally it will work for a second and then kapoot! So any ideas on what to do?
