I'm looking for something of GOOD quality but a camera that is also affordable. Approx 5 mega pixels. My camera broke today and I'm a little sick of it to be honest.

The Sony DSC-700, is a 7.2 MP camera, with a 3x optical zoom. Complete specifications can be found at http://www.sony.com/index.php. The price is about $150.00. B&H Photo is selling them for about $15.00 less, and Staples is including a free 1GB memory stick.

If you go to http://www.pricegrabber.com and enter "DSC-700", it will give you a list of places, where you can find that camera, and many more. Generally speaking, I have found B&H Photo, in NYC, a great place to buy photographic equipment, i.e., online and in the store. They have great prices and great customer service.

I'm going through that search right now for myself and have a few suggestions. I am looking at compact and subcompact cameras myself.

SONY – Their cameras when compared to others are a little on the pricy side but produce good pictures. The thing I don’t like is that most Sony products utilize proprietary memory sticks and are not compatible with any other cameras. They are costly and not as easily available as all the others. Other memory systems are constantly in competition with each other and the pricing and memory size is always improving.

CANON - Seems to have several good quality cameras available, prices are competitive and use standard memory modules. In the compact category, the PowerShot S2 IS (5MP) is top rated with the only negative being “shutter lag” which can be compensated for by holding the button halfway down until ready to snap the picture. The Canon A710IS (7MP) is also highly rated and the shutter lag is not a problem in this model. Both models have image stabilizer. In the subcompact category, Canon’s PowerShot SD800IS ELPH (7MP) is the best all around camera.

Olympus (my old favorite) and Nikon are too far down the list to consider anymore.

Best of luck in your hunting. Buy on-line for the best price, no tax and free shipping.

I LOVE MY NEW CAMERA.

It's simple, has a huge view screen. Was around $300 with parts at bestbuy.

It's an HP Photosmart R937

I spent two hours at Bestbuy testing all the Camera's under $1000 and I liked this one better than the 700 and 450 dollar cameras

My friend has a sony cyber shot with 6 mega pixels. its only about 100-150 now, but it takes better pictures than my instructor's camera- and he paid up in the thousands for his.

What you should have mentioned first was how much you plan to spend. If it's near $200- then I suggest the Canon A630. 4X optical zoom, 8 megapixels, has manual controls in addition to auto, very good on AA rechargeables. Will give you an excellent 8X10 print.

Value for money and easy to use I would recommend the Canon l Powershot A550 7.1 megapixel / 4 X optical zoom at $279 Dick Smith. Easy to use but you will have to buy a bigger memory card say 512mb

I ahve a HP. :). Definately go to an electronics store and ask around. Tell them what you want and your price range. They should definately be able to help you find something.
Also, if you can't find what your looking for at a decent price, try eBay. Sometimes you can find amazing deals on there. Just be careful if you do go that route. ;)
