I just need a overall good lens that will also work with low light situations. I have a tamron 28-200 and it's horrible in low light. Is the Nikon 50mm f1.8 what I'm looking for? Thanks in advance.

I can take great pictures of myself with a cell phone and I always look great when other people take pictures of me (including when they are using MY camera). But whenever I try to use my own digital camera to take a picture of myself, they all turn out AWFUL. What am I doing wrong? I thought that it was the lighting... but I am not too sure. Can anyone give me tips or am I just digitally handicap?

I should also add that I am able to take great pictures of myself using DISPOSABLE cameras that you buy at Wallgreens/CVS/etc. Maybe it is just my camera?

I have a Samsung Digimax S500, and it uses AA alkaline batteries, but every time I put in the batteries, they last for around 15 minutes max, then the camera just turns off. I've used the batteries that it came with, and tried almost every other type of battery, and it still only lasts a couple of minutes. Is this normal? Should it last longer? What should i do to fix it?

I seriously want to get into photography, and I'm hoping to eventually run my own studio. My problem is that I need a digital so I can practice without the cost of film & developing. I want the D80, but it's going to take me a long time to scrape together the money for it. If I go with the D50, I will most likely upgrade at some point in the future.

Which would you do? Wait for the one you really want, or go ahead and start practicing with something you can afford right now?

Thank you to those who contributed to the 2 previous questions.

To recall, I need a macro lens and a tele (500mm in 35mm terms) for my wildlife shots, a wide angle that starts at 28mm for townscapes and monuments. Last, image stabilisation, which for Canon and Nikon restricts the choice of lenses.

Nikon and Canon are expensive and heavy (over 2kg for my combination of lenses - over ₤2000). Sony cheaper and lighter, and Olympus even more so (E-400 + 3 lenses 1.1kg/₤1000!!) but with their kit lenses. Olympus has no image stabilisation, what a shame.

Played around with the D80 and 400D in a shop today. Both unbelievably fast (auto focus, start time). Canon was neat but awkward to hold and the viewfinder small/dim. Also I like Nikon's 18-200 zoom as an all-rounder, and their macro lens is the only one on the market with image stabilisation. So it looks like Nikon, unless there is evidence the Sony kit lenses are up there with the more expensive Nikon and Canon lens.

I am trying to find a good DSLR digital camera to buy. I want one that isnt too expensive (about 300 pounds max - maybe a bit more) also one that has good zoom and changeable lenses. Also high resolution and megapixels (at least 7MP). Can anyone reccomend a good camera (please give the make and model) I think nikon, pentax, canon and sony are makes I would go for because they look the best quality. I also want it easy to get the photos onto a computer quickly and easily.

I have been watching that Paparazzi program on tv and want something like the cameras they use that have good quality images and that are more professional cameras that can take loads of photos quickly because I want to improve my photography.

Please help
