The 70-210 works on all Nikon dSLR bodies. With other Nikon lenses, you might have some compatibility issues. For example, the Nikon D40 only works with lenses that have an internal AF-motor, and the D40/ D50/ D80 don't meter well with manual focus lenses.
As for other brands of camera, the Fuji dSLR cameras also have a Nikon mount, as does the (ancient) Kodak 14N.
And then you have the option to use Nikon lenses with an adapter ring on Canon bodies etc, but this is more trouble than it's worth. With adapter rings you usually lose AF and metering, so you're better off just selling your lenses and getting new ones.
