I have a olympus 4000c digital camera and have used smartmedia cards (128mb). I want to expand to 1G, but
ive been told that they don't use those anymore. Does anyone
have a clue?

Yes SmartMedia Cards have been obsolete since their highest capicity was 128MBs while the SD cards now hold like 4Gs for a cheaper amount of money than the 128MB SmartMedia Cards.

With cameras now at 8MP and 10MP you take huge picture files that are about 20-40MBs of memory. Thats an enmourmous amount of space which these 128MB cards would hold like 5 shots. Thats why they are not being produced.

Smartmedia are no longer being used because the maximum it can support is 128MB. There are adapters that allow you to use xD-Picture card in the smartmedia slot but the camera's firmware might not support the extra size.

You can still find some smart media cards, either "new" old stock, or on eBay. The biggest is 128mb.

The 4000c was a great little camera for its day! I had one and really liked it. The new Oly P&S cameras are pretty nice, too!

Many of the cameras that used SM have refused to die (amen) so you have to get what you can.

But what do I know. I still play with film cameras too.
