I have a Samsung Digimax S500, and it uses AA alkaline batteries, but every time I put in the batteries, they last for around 15 minutes max, then the camera just turns off. I've used the batteries that it came with, and tried almost every other type of battery, and it still only lasts a couple of minutes. Is this normal? Should it last longer? What should i do to fix it?

Large LCD viewfinders eat batteries. It seems nice to have a big LCD monitor, but they are power hungry. You will have to do what you can to turn the thing off as soon as you don't need it any longer. Set it to shut off at the shortest possible interval after you take the picture. Set it so that it doesn't not display unless you tap the shutter button to wake it up. Even this will not go a long way towards conserving batteries.

You can't use plain alkaline batteries with this camera. You will need to use either high output NiMH rechargeable batteries or Energizer e2 LITHIUM batteries or the Duracell equivalent. The thing is, a camera needs full output in order to operate. The output curve on these lithium batteries remains fairly constant and strong until just before the battery dies, so they will operate your camera longer. If you test the alkaline batteries that are not strong enough to operate your camera, you will probably find that they still have about 80% power remaining or even more. They just don't have the juice to make the camera work with that monster LCD monitor.

No, that's not normal. Instead of buying all kinds of batteries to see which brand lasts longer, first you should get some rechargables (they're pretty cheap, just go down to RadioShack or something). If the rechargables still drain that quickly (I've known cameras to run perfectly fine on rechargables but absolutely murder regular ones) then return the camera.

A camera that only lasts fifteen minutes on a full battery charge is... well, pointless.

If you use normal alkaline battery then is normal. you should use rechargable battries.
Every battery has a nunber follow by MH e.g 1200mh especially in a recharge battries. try getting this batteries 1200mh or higher. the higher the no. the longer it last.
if you still have this problem, then something wrong with your camera. may be some internal shorts circuit drains up your power.

If your camera is out of warranty, then sounds like you need to make the best of a bad situation. Turn off the LCD screen. that really does consume batteries.
