For $600, I would look at the Nikon D40., with kit lens and 2GB card for $599.
Or the Nikon D50 with kit lens for $499. (Currently out of stock, but you can still order for that price.)
Or the Olympus Evolt E500 with lens for $539.
These are all dSLR cameras. They will give you better performance and value than a digicam.
These are at www.bhphoto.com.

Why 6MP? The best probably is the SD700IS for 6MP... But there are now better cameras out there that are 10 and 8MPs. The Canon S3IS is a outstanding camera with ultra zoom and IS.

In that price range, I'd look for a Nikon D40 or D50. If you decide to upgrade later on, the accessories are interchangeable for D-model Nikons.

People will start picking their own cameras; so i'll be the first to pick the one I own. I love my Sony CyberShot DSC-H2. 6 MP, 12X optical zoom, great on batteries, has image stabilizer and produces excellent 8X10s when enlarged. 1 second delay between shots. I paid $341---$41 too much.
