I have had similar issues with my Sony Cyber Shot. It will accept rechargeable batteries happily, but turns its nose up at Duracell, Panasonic etc ordinary batteries. Perplexingly it does take Ikea ultra cheap batteries, lol. I suggest you just try some other brands, or rechargeables.

Have you tried more than one set of batteries? I have found quite a few dud cells in budget priced packs of alkalines

you need rechargeables
they are 100 times better
