Recently, I unplugged our computer because I thought I was taking it somewhere. I ended out not taking it and plugged it back in. Now, "System" is taking up a ton of CPU.
It's not 100% all the time, the weird thing is that it compensates for whatever else is running. For example, if aim.exe runs for a second with 4%, system will go down to 96%. It did this all the way up (or down) to around 50%, sharing it with another program.

Anyway, the strangest part is that it is not slowing the computer down. It was, my brother says, but it is not for me right now, as I am posting from it. It does, however, stop the USB ports from working. (That could just be the ports, I'm not sure if it is related to this problem.)

Please help, we have PC-cillin and Spy Sweeper. I'm pretty sure neither have detected a problem. If all you can help with is the USB ports, that would be great, at least then I could back everything up.

I am new at this computer stuff & lingo. Once I install XP will my PC be cleaned or cleared of old stuff? Also, will I loose any of my emails sent to me? How do I clear out everything on my hard drive so I know I will have space required to install XP? That is what I do to make more space?

After I arrange the icons in my desktop, and I restart windows xp, they tend to regroup to the left side of the screen and not around the desktop area where I want them. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Don't say "check one of the settings", what do you think? But if there's a setting I missed, then tell me but you have to tell me exactly where, 'cause I don't want to end up looking a million times ending up empty-handed.

Don't tell me to GOOGLE it. I mean.. WHERE DO YOU THINK I JUST CAME FROM?

I restarted AIM, my computer, I reinstalled AIM, i used different accounts, nothing worked.

So don't state the obvious of what I did that didn't help. Thx, hope you help. :)

After all this you 're still not sure what the morning will bring. Done everything they said. Still not sure what the problem was! It is 00.45! I'm up in the morining. Please say I'm not alone! The computer is still saying - 'fixing the problem, this may take afew minutes, please wait'! Yawn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm losing the "formating" for lack of a better term on Yahoo Answers, Personals and even some fields in email. The computer I'm at for the next month is a DSL connection (I know). I've heard this might be caused by the Norton Anti-virus program being run on the computer. Help! How do I fix this?

I am currently running a 4000+/1GB/X800XL system which I plan to use without upgrading until I build something completely new in about 2 years from now. I currently have a legitimate OEM installation of WindowsXP Pro on this system. Should I buy the OEM, upgrade, or retail version of Vista, and should I consider installing a 64-bit version? Basically I want to be able to use this OS on my current as well as my next PC, and the ability to do a clean install is also of some value to me. I am aware that the retail box will give me everything I want, I would also like to avoid spending the MSRP on a retail version of Vista Ultimate. Thanks a lot in advance guys -
