Software - January 2007

Hi. Does anyone know why windows media player on my pc may be skipping sections of tracks as I play them? it's very slight (about 1 or 2 seconds) and only now and again but is noticable, the tracks themselves are totally fine so must something else. Same thing happens wether multi tasking or not. thanks

I've just updated divx to 6.5 and suddenly when I open Virtualdub, inside Video Compression, there is no DIVX listed anywhere.
I tried to uninstall and reinstall divx again, no luck. I also downloaded the latest Virtualdub, doesn't work either.
I can view divx movie alright, just couldn't edit it using Virtualdub anymore...
Any ideas?

My 13 yr.old removed my soundmax (" 4-she was intending,& trying 2 make herself some space:she was running out!") As Result I, No longer have any sound at all,since! I, tried restore several times but 2 no_avail! I'd like to know what an easy to install and run Linux package is? I've heard of Debian, SUSE, Mandrake, Ubuntu, and more. But I want a user-friendly GUI experience.

I'll actually be installing this on a Mac OS X using Parallels so any experience specifically with that will be helpful too.

I've just downloaded AOL 9.0 which I thought would be great but it won't let me sign in. It asks on the registration screen to provide the registration code and password on installation CD ROM but I did not download it from a CD, I downloaded it from the AOL website. I have a scree name but it won't let me sign on. **IS AOL 9.0 FREE BY THE WAY??**

I have a 4 year old son who love his computer and has in the past found ways to crash my computer (i.e. missing ntldr) and i was wondering if there is a way to run windows xp home edition off of a dvd+/r without actually having to install it on the computer.
So, he can just leave the disk in place and run windows from the disk. i really hate having to reinstall windows everytime it crashes.

i bought a used computer with xp pro installed. nearly all of the files and programs have been removed. but the network log on and windows logons are still there. the omputer still thinks it is part of a network. how do i make it back to normal? is it going to be in the registry edit?

When I save an Excel document, I want it to insert the saved date and time into the spreadsheet so that, when I open it later, I'll be able to see the original saved date (not today's date). Is there a way to do that? What's the formula?

it won't install for some reason! I do what it asks, but it doesn't even show!The download process starts. During the download, a progress window lets you know the estimated time remaining for the download to finish. The download can take anywhere from a few seconds on a fast Internet connection to half an hour or more on a very slow connection. Once the download is over the installation process will start automatically.
That doesn't show.
