I'd like to know what an easy to install and run Linux package is? I've heard of Debian, SUSE, Mandrake, Ubuntu, and more. But I want a user-friendly GUI experience.

I'll actually be installing this on a Mac OS X using Parallels so any experience specifically with that will be helpful too.

Agree. Ubuntu is very user friendly. One of the nice things about it is that it uses a "live CD". In other words, you can run Ubuntu on your computer from the CD without actually installing it. Once you decide you like it, you can use the same CD as the installer. Very convenient. You can order the CD from Ubuntu or you can burn your own by downloading it from the Ubuntu site.

NOTE: If you download the install CD from the Ubuntu site you're actually downloading an .iso file and you'll need to convert this into an installation CD. To do this you need a CD burning application. Since you'd be using Mac OS X, it's a two step process. After you download the .iso file to desktop:
1. Load the Disk Utility application (found in your Utilities folder)
2. Insert a blank CD, choose Images > Burn and select the downloaded .iso file

Ubuntu. It only 1 CD to download. After installation, you may get extra update from their site, or choose by yourself via Synaptic package manager.
