Software - January 2007

If I buy a copy of XP Home Upgrade, will it convert my pirate version of XP Pro to a legit version of XP Home or do I have to reinstall my legit copies of '98 or Millennium (ick, ick, ick) and then install the upgrade from there?

*Please* do not suggest that I buy the XP Full version or Vista. I can't afford either one. This is all about upgrading for the least amount of money possible. I want to give Bill Gates as little of my hard earned cash as I can get away with.

i have a Limwire Pro(which i downloaded from basic); and it doesnt download all kinds of files, it downloads some and does a good job but it doesnt all; like it'll download Bob marley's - No Woman No Cry but it wont download Bob marley's- Jammin'.

Wats the problem?

I use dvd shrink 2.0 , and any dvd to copy and make back up dvds for my home footage movies. But my program wont read it through dvd shrink. How can i get my copied dvd to download to save on hard drive so i can upload it onto youtube...

Greetings everyone,

I've recently started a small business and want to be able to keep track of contacts and when I've communicated with them. ACT seems to be the big player in this category, but I was wanting to explore the free programs out there before shelling out any money.

Can anyone suggest a freeware program with ACT's features? Ideally, it should be a standalone application, but web-based suggestions are also welcome.

I seem to have changed a setting maybe or something where when i crop, it crops a border around the area that i selected with the rectangular marquee tool. How do i get it to crop exactly on the lines? Does anyone know what i mean?

I have a gateway computer with dvd and cd burner that i got for a gift last year its brand new and every time after about a half hour sometimes less it will freeze in between the middle of the program and sometimes it just starts over by itself but it wont go back to the regular program i have to keep turning off for a half hour or more before i can turn it back on so it will work.i've tried a system restore and it still doesn't work,so is there something i can do to make it work the same way it used to or something i can do to keep it from freezing.Its still new i have only had it for a year.Can any one help me.?Or do i have to get a new computer.

I am sticking with XP ( I don't like the Direct rights Management in Vista (aka direct restritions management). Does nayone know if there is Direct Rights Management with Outlook 2007, and is it even worth the upgrade other than for cosmetic reasons? My outlook 2003 works fine and I don't want ot reinvent the wheel....but if it s good upgrade then i would consider it for my new laptop...

Because when I was laughing at all the files that had 23 kb I knew they had viruses.

But then I typed GTA: San andreas and there was a file that was 480MB

Looking for someone with knowledge in Photoshop Lab Color to help me answer this. My company uses Photoshop to color-correct scanned images of painted artwork, illustrations. A lot of flat, pure color.

There is some recent demand to convert our art from CMYK to Lab colorspace, for device indepenence. Not only will it be difficult for us on so many levels (like being used to working with colors separately and getting perfect yellows, whites, etc.), but we wonder how the colorspace will act when we apply our illustrations to it. The books we've read through on this subject seem only to highlight the use of this colorspace when applied to photographs.

my computer is being stupid and it almost scared me. it has chnaged the desktop on me twice and i nearly thought i was missing some files. it is slower and it's like it has gone back to it microsoft ways of operating and not my set options. is there a chance of a virus that norton has not caught? what is going on with my computer?

I'm trying to use DVD Shrink, but when I go to burn a DVD, I get the message "To enable burning, please install Nero". I have Nero 7.5.9.0 installed, but DVD Shrink can't find it. Any ideas?

I want to buy Windows XP OEM, however....if a website says that the software is OEM, what guarantee is there that I can activate XP through Microsoft?

Most places say the software comes with COA but they doesn't mean that the activation code has/ hasn't been used before!

Is this something I should ask the website?
