it all depends on the installation CDs you have. If your CD is for a clean install, you should be able to install no problem. But you'll be wiping EVERYTHING off it.

If your CD is for an upgrade, expect it to moan at you and probably refuse to co-operate. Upgrades are all specified as an upgrade from some specific starting place - if you're not starting from that place, it won't play.

PS if your disk was formatted for Linux (and maybe even if it wasn't), you'll have a stack of partitions on the disk. The install CD will spot that and ask you what you want to do. Unless you want to keep Linux, delete all the partitions and create just one new one.

It should do, although you must have quite an old pc if it's still running windows 95 - check that your pc meets the minimum system requirementsbefore you do anything (these can be found on the packaging of xp)

Don't worry about ms dos, once xp is installed you probably won't need to use it (xp has a feature called compatability mode that can be accessed by right clicking the file and going to properties)

Upgrade as soon as you can, windows 95/98 aren't any good for the internet anymore, too many security issues

to install xp, insert your disk, reboot, then boot from cd, the rest is quite simple... oh yes, and you'll need the sp2 upgrade for best performance and online protection (this can be downloaded after install, and costs nothing

if you aren't sure of anything you can email me, i'll be happy to help...

You can upgrade to Windows XP no matter what you previously had on your computer. All you need to do is insert the new Windows operating system disc into your computer, and as you start your computer, the installation program will immediately run.

Just remember, it will completely overwrite all the data you have on your computer, so make sure you back everything up before you do an install.

Also, Windows XP doesn't come with MS DOS. They have what's known as Command Prompt. It looks just like DOS, however is not its own operating system like DOS is.

I have put xp on some really old stuff and it will work. It will prolly not set any speed records tho. The problem you will have is disk space. XP uses a lot more of the hard drive than '95 did. Older machines had smaller hard drives to start with. XP also needs a lot more ram. I also would caution you on buying a copy of XP @ $100 for a machine that old that is not worth the money you are about to put into it.

I think you are talking about the OS (Operating System).

The MS DOS remains the same for the Windows XP. Just newer routines and such. Like the english of a 6 year old and a 20 year. Same English, but one has more vocabulary.

Go and upgrade to windows xp. But make sure you have your virus protection on in case you need to get the SP2 upgrades.

Don't uninstall Dos. If you want to load XP (I assume it is not an upgrade) then put in the CD and let the disc decide if it was install or not.

well if you are upgrading to XP then XP itself will reinstall MS-dos. But with a computer that old your better off buying a new one.

only if your pc has enough umpf. and if it had 95 on it it most certainly has a floppy. so a boot disc like ultimate boot can format and reinstall ms dos should you need to.
