Great question, I recently got a MacBook Pro, and one of the pros of getting that was the ability to run Windows, and the fact that if I had got a PC at the time it'd still be running the same OS as my ancient one, not encouraging.

So will I get Vista since I can? I was seriously considering it, but Microsoft plan to bring out a new Windows within 2 or 3 years, it's still not as good for security as Mac OS X, but the pro factors is that it looks great.

I'll be waiting to try it out for real before I decide if it's worth it, theres a lot of things you can buy for £150 (and thats just the OEM 'Ultimate' price, not retail).

If you're planning on getting a new computer, wait to see what Apple brings out in Mac OS 10.5 in the spring, try out Vista and see if you like it, see if you cant afford to wait 3 years for a new version, and to top that XP Pro is supported (ie windows update) for the next 3 years at least. =)

No, and you probably would not want to either. It does not seem like a good idea to try to "upgrade" (hah! wHAT A JOKE!) to Windows Vista because what I have read of it so far it is a massive memory hog and might grind many older computers to a dead stop.

The problem with these things is that a basic program which is supposed to do a certain job is re-released as an "upgrade" (HAH!!) which most of the time is really a downgrade, and it is never better, it is just more complicated and loaded with new problems. If Detroit had worked on the same philosophy as software engineers then new cars today would double as saunas, tennis courts, lawn mowers, king-size beds, bowling alleys and exercise gyms, besides being a car you can drive. The excessive and nonsensical complexity is reaching the breaking point, and it won't be long before an operating system for a computer will also iron your shirts, walk the dog, take out the trash, vacuum your floors, and wash your clothes all at the same time, and the buttons to control all this will be the size of pinheads covering an area at least a foot square.

Who the hell needs crap like that?

I just ordered a new computer and it is coming with Windows Vista on it, but I would never go out and deliperately BUY that piece of garbage separately. I can imagine all the problems in doing an "upgrade" (HAH!). I am still running WindowsNT on a couple of machines and guess what folks? It works just fine, even though the operating system was "obsolete" maybe ten years ago.

Never buy a new operating system when it first comes out if you can possibly avoid it; that would be like buying a Swiss watch that had been smacked with a sledgehammer. It might be new, all right, but it's also broken.

I do not believe in illegal downloading, but I will also neither be buying or downloading Windows Vista anytime soon. It is far too expensive to justify buying at the moment. The Ultimate Edition, which I would prefer to own, is $260 for the upgrade alone, $400 for the full version. Also, I would like to wait awhile, perhaps, and buy a new computer with Vista preinstalled. As a cosmetic note, however, those Windows Vista product boxes sure look awesome!

No way, not for a while...too many bugs and besides...computer prices are gonna go up for Vista capable computers...in about 6 months it'll be back to normal, and hopefully no more bugs...those of us who remember when XP came out remember the nightmare that was..updates all over the place.

Nope, I will wait for a later version of Vista, they will have to fix the one they are going start selling now...it has security problems...I expect to start hearing complaints within days after it goes on the market----just count the days.

Yes the most advanced one I can, it will take a few months to save the money but I think it is worth it. (I like keeping up to date - except my car). I will buy it as an upgrade from XP Pro, and I wandt the disk so I can reload if anything goes wrong

Most users do not need it. I am finished with Microsoft. Why not try UBUNTU Linux if you would like to have a current operating system and programs. Check it out at ubuntu.com. it's free.
