I am currently running a 4000+/1GB/X800XL system which I plan to use without upgrading until I build something completely new in about 2 years from now. I currently have a legitimate OEM installation of WindowsXP Pro on this system. Should I buy the OEM, upgrade, or retail version of Vista, and should I consider installing a 64-bit version? Basically I want to be able to use this OS on my current as well as my next PC, and the ability to do a clean install is also of some value to me. I am aware that the retail box will give me everything I want, I would also like to avoid spending the MSRP on a retail version of Vista Ultimate. Thanks a lot in advance guys -

It doesn't matter which version you buy because it is the worst OS ever created.
Even with the fast machine that you have Vista will slow it down considerably.
The 64bit version seems to be worse than the rest.
Do yourself a favor and stick with XP.
You can go to Slashdot and look up Vista and get the facts about Vista that Microsoft doesn't want you to know about.
Slashdot is a website for IT Professionals.

Ask the retail store or Microsoft for a copy of the Vista EULA before you purchase and see if they will give it to you.
Did you know that Microsoft only permits one activation per license?
If at some point you want to reinstall Vista you will need to purchase another license from Microsoft.
If you want virus protection? You will have to buy a subscription from Microsoft for 39.99 per year.
There is a lot more too.
Like no "M" rated on line games like World of Warcraft.
Personally I am going to get a Mac because I am sick of Microsoft.
