Vista "officially" goes on sale at midnight. There are already 9 operating system updates.... and it hasn't even been released yet! Vista is pretty buggy. Waiting at least until SP1 comes out would be wise from a "stability" point of view.
Vista is a resource hog. Cost of hardware continues to fall month by month. The new Core Duo Intel chips just came out... prices will fall, probably dramatically, in a few months. If you wait, you'll get a lot more computer for the money. With Vista, you'll need a lot more computer.
Standard marketing protocol dictates you charge a lot for the latest and greatest, selling at a high price to the "gadget hungry". Once they've bought in, you reduce the price in stages, gathering in the rest of us who are driven more by price than by "wow". Waiting may get you the software cheaper too.
Most software/hardware vendors are catching up... a lot simply won't work on Vista yet. Drivers fail, software won't load, etc. It will take several months before most of the compatability issues are worked out. Why suffer the headaches when waiting a few months will reduce most of them?
In short, buy Vista right now only if you have to.

i would without a doubt wait on vista. I dont care how safe and sturdy microsoft says vista will be. They have said that for all their OSs like ME, 2000, even 98. As much as i love microsoft i would wait on the upgrade. Also the price will probably go down within a year. Vista is going to be outrageously expensive (ultimate edition costs $400!!!)

Wait as long as possible because Vista is WAY over rated. I would stick with XP Profession or Home Edition before Vista.

I merely offered a working laptop or pc final month with Vista on it and that i've got had fairly no issues. From what I even have heard a super form of the subjects come from attempting to enhance your pc. in case you do get a clean pc verify you get a greater robust than customary one so as that i will run Vista exact

wait until at least the first Service Pack comes out so that Microsoft can work all the bugs out of the OS, but after that there shouldnt be a huge issue with upgrading
