My fiance's been having trouble with a pop-up ad on his computer that keeps on coming back up again every 13 seconds, whenever he Xs it down. Unlike most pop-ups, it's not a link to the site that it is advertising - he clicked on it and said that it did not take him to that company's site.
In terms of what security systems he has on his computer, he's got Norton/Symantec and AOL computer check-up, firewall, antivirus, and antispyware package.
What my fiance has done, to try to get rid of this pop-up, is run his Norton antivirus scan, which did not find anything and when he turned off his computer and then turned it back on again, the pop-up was still there and this problem has been plaguing him for a few days, now.

I have a computer which has some sort of virus where:

1. Whenever i try to run Norton, norton does not open. I tried *installing* AVG, - canot install. It was even refusing to let the file be copied to the PC

2. When i open task manager, it opens then immediately closes.

3. When i open the dos command prompt, it opens then immediately closes.

4. when i log on the the PC, several command windows with nothing in the title bar appear, then disappear.

after reinstalling pc guard (virgin media) i did a virus scan only to find a virus in my f drive (cd drive). After closer inspection I found it was apprently in F:\setup.jar file.

I wouldn't of thought this was possible as the game is an original.

The virus defination came up avsdk.msi

If this is possible how can I get rid of it? If this is not a virus what has caused this to happen?

Other than Yahoo photos that can be completely private, how do you put a lock on pics that you display locally on myspace so that no one can access them in any way?

The IT Techinician at work has made it a policy for nobody to be able to connect to any form of instant messengers.I don't have the rights to install YM, and he already blocked the access to the two online messengers I found...meebo and e-buddy.Now I'm using ILoveIM, but he'll block it too in 2-3 days, I'm sure...this happens because he is able to see the pages I've accesed...is there a way that I could connect to an online IM WITHOUT him finding out?

...I'm not lazy, I need it to get through to some people when I need to (for those of you who would flame me for my problem)

I don't need the real-time protection because I already got one running and don't want another software slowing my PC down. So it will only serve as a back-up thing.
Last week I read about this free anti-virus program that don't offer real-time protection ( meaning it won't load up everytime windows starts ) But I don't remember the name of it. Is there anyone does? I think it's in one of the PC World emails.

I'm considering using this for my company to allow work-from-home, but one concern is how it will impact the company's computer usage policy.

Right now, if someone checks personal email or uses instant messenger services, or worse, looks at porn at work, it's all blocked by the firewall and recorded at the server. Can someone with GoToMyPC installed on their work computer bypass the company firewall by accessing restricted sites or restricted software on their home computer remotely?

I read their stuff on the website and it notes that USAGE can be monitored (i.e. when they logged in, files transferred, etc) but what about what they view or access at their work terminal through their home computer? I tested it and was able to access my instant messenger programs and shopping sites from behind our company's firewall (which would have normally blocked such activity), so I know it CAN be done, but can the administrator monitor or detect such abuses?

When i close IE i get these messages:

iexplore.eve Application Error

The instruction at "0x047132fe" referenced memory at "0x04792638". The momory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program

after i click Ok (since its the only option another box pops up directly after and says:
Error
Runtime error 216 at 047132FE

So i click "ok" again and thats it.

I also get random popups while using IE (and sometimes when im not using it). Its usually porn or some other advertising. someitmes it opens a new IE window even when im not using the internet and sometimes a popup loads on IE while im using it but appears as if its supposed to be apart of the webpage i am visiting (which isnt the case). it just comes with a grey "X" to close it.

So whats wrong with this comp and how do i fix it?

i d/l'd some programs for virus and such and cleaned it but these 2 problems wont go away and when i scan the system or clean it with easy cleaner it says everything is fine.
