I have spy sweeper and it works great.
Spy sweeper only scans for spyware, adware, and other forms of spy malware.
People can view your files on the network if you have shares.
Right click My Computer, Manage, Shared Folders
-These are your folders people can access and view from the network and maybe even delete if you gave that folder permission to do so.
If your takling about people hacking you, then you might want to have a
-Firewall (XP SP2 has one by default)
-Anti-virus software, updated daily
-Updates (Microsoft update)
-Dont use important services on the internet, people on the same network can sniff the same data.
Those four security aspects only help defer attackers. Im sure you know already, if someone really wanted your files they could have them.

RE:
How safe is Webroot Spy Sweeper?
If on the same home wi-fi network, will spysweeper protect my computer from other computers on the network from viewing my files, history, etc...? Even from the main computer on the network?

When I used webroot it seriously bogged down my system. It is probably safe to download, but make sure you have enough ram to run the program. I am running Vista with 3gb ram and webroot is so massive it consumed a lot of my resources.

It is a good program, although I would not pay for spyware programs when there are perfectly good free ones. Spy Sweeper is not a firewall, so it will not protect against unauthorized use of your computer...try ZoneAlarm for that.

Probably not. There's no such thing as a free lunch especially if it's on bittorrent or a warez site.
