I don't need the real-time protection because I already got one running and don't want another software slowing my PC down. So it will only serve as a back-up thing.
Last week I read about this free anti-virus program that don't offer real-time protection ( meaning it won't load up everytime windows starts ) But I don't remember the name of it. Is there anyone does? I think it's in one of the PC World emails.

I use Panda. If you want to try some of their tools for free go to http://www.infectedornot.com That web site is part of their new campaign "Infected Or Not?".

There you can try their new products (Panda NanoScan and Panda TotalScan) for free and, in exchange, they collect statistics that are presented in the campaign's website to raise awareness on the malware infection problem.

You should try them, they have more virus definitions than anybody else and they detect all kinds of malware (viruses, trojans, worms, adware, spyware, hacking tools, etc.)

If you already have one running, do NOT install another anti-virus product! They do NOT play well together.

And trust me, you do NOT want an antivirus product without real-time protection! That's worse than no anti-virus at all since it gives you a false sense of security but does nothing at all to protect you.

Online Free Scanners:
Run Trend Micro, Kaspersky, and Panda Scan now.
Run a different one each month.

Trend Micro: HouseCall Free Scan (removes what it finds)
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
BitDefender Online Scanner http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html
Kaspersky Labs Online Scanner http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
McAfee http://us.mcafee.com/root/mfs/default.asp?affid=294
Panda ActiveScan Free Online Scanner http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan?
Symantic Online Scanner http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/ssc_eula.asp?langid=ie&venid=sym&plfid=23&pkj=ALUFRHYTINMHDKDCWLL&vc_scanstate=2
-----------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------
These programs only run when you run them, so they do not slow windows starting (except CCleaner if set to run when computer starts)

I highly recommend you install all five programs and run weekly or at least monthly. You need all five. They are not a substitute for full time spyware and virus protection.

Ad-Aware SE Personal (update + full scan)
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php

Spybot Search & Destroy (update + immunize + scan)
Do not enable Tea Timer and SDHelper
After installation: update + scan + immunize
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html

SpywareBlaster: Update then open and click “enable all protection”.

SUPERAntiSpyware free version: (update + scan)
http://www.superantispyware.com/

CCleaner: Do not install toolbar and recycle bin options
Removes tracking cookies, unneeded files, history
In options.
Set to run when computer starts.
Place cookies you want to keep in save list
http://www.ccleaner.com/
----------------------------
To speed up loading of Windows.
1) Delete any unneeded programs from starting using msconfig. Run PCPitstop full tests, running programs section will list programs that do not need to load at startup.
http://www.pcpitstop.com/

2) Startup Delayer v2.3.115
http://www.r2.com.au/software.php?page=2&show=startdelay

Can you learn another language in the time it takes for your machine to boot? Do you turn on your PC when you go to bed, so it's finished booting by the time you get home from work the next day?

When Windows loads it's Startup file, it attempts to load every program in there at the same time. Therefore if you have quite a lot of programs starting when Windows starts, each program will try and grab CPU time so that it can load.

Startup Delayer allows you to setup how many seconds (from 1 second to 99 hours) after Windows has started, to load each program.

in case you have Norton internet protection 2009 that's going to possibly turn your homestead windows Defender off. in case you're utilising the Norton firewall do not turn homestead windows firewall on. i will activate homestead windows Defender and use it to verify or use the utility explorer yet as quickly as I pass away it on i ultimately locate that Norton has became it off. that's ok through fact Norton internet protection has all the kit to maintain you risk-free as long as you employ risk-free computing behavior.

BitDefender 8 Free Edition is an on-demand only scanner, with no real time, resident protection. And it has great detection rates in this test:
http://www.virus.gr/english/fullxml/default.asp?id=82&mnu=82

It "plays" great with almost all other A-Vs because it is on-demand only.

BitDefender 8 is free from:

Never install more than one anti-virus on your PC, as they may conflict with each other. On the other hand, its always good to install more than one anti-spyware.
