Active virus shield from AOL is far better than AVG, in fact it knock the spots of AVG.
Anyone who tell you different does not know what they are talking about.
Running AVG - it's just a matter of time before you find out Why it's such a poor anti virus.

AVG Free 7.5 is a lot better than Active Virus shield. AVG has been awarded many times and AVG is very strong ( also according to research tests, it detected all wild viruses in the testing). AVG is easy and effective however two products still stand out.
2nd: Norton 360
( It gives all the protection you need)
1st: BitDefender Free Edition 8.
( According to TopTen Reviews, it detected all viruses and neutralized them in the instance).

sure ! AOL lively Virus look after, in accordance to Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6. For a loose antivirus application, we assume of that is totally solid, and we favor different major antivirus distributors might want to provide gentle variations of their products. Kaspersky is nicely regular in the antivirus community as between the added efficient antivirus apps in words of catching malware, and in CNET Labs' exams, we discovered that Kaspersky did not slow our attempt computer like Norton AntiVirus, nor did it take as lengthy to experiment our finished attempt demanding stress. the same is real with this "lite" version, the 2d loose safe practices software to be presented by AOL

I like AOL Active Virus Shield. A lot. Don't let the name AOL fool you. Active Virus Shield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.
THE TEST BELOW SPEAKS FOR ITSELF.
In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, Active Virus Shield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.
Full test chart is here:
http://www.virus.gr/english/fullxml/default.asp?id=82&mnu=82
Active Virus Shield has excellent virus detection rates and is extremely light on using your computer resources. (6mb ram)
Active Virus Shield detects and removes spyware, also.
And it updates up to 15 times a DAY with new virus definitions, 7 days a week!
Good stuff, free for everyone from:

.....................
I see the AVG fanboys and cheerleaders are out in full force again here on Yahoo Answers!
Mostly noobs, the naive and the computer illiterate use AVG Free. These types love AVG because they say it is easy to use and almost never bothers them with any pop-ups or warnings. Of course AVG Free never bothers them, it hardly ever finds any virus to warn them about!
In short, AVG Free is crap!
In test,

after test,

after test,

after test,

etc. etc. etc, ad nauseam, AVG free fares poorly.
AVG has proven itself to be a miserable performer at best. Missing almost 20%, while trying to detect known malware, in some tests. Not to mention almost non-existent heuristic detection and infrequent "once-a day" updates.
AVG. = Average, at best!

Kapersky's AVS and AVG are both highly rated.
Try them and decide for yourself.
If you mean the AOL one, don't.
TIP: You can't run both at the same time, so un-install one before installing the other.
