Well, I downloaded a "Super Codec 6.0" and I feel its responsible for the constant (fake) virus alerts and adult dating sites pop-ups (!!!) - and when I try to uninstall it, it simply reboots my pc without removing anything. Now I tried used the Norton Spyware program and I removed 4 Spyware files, but the problem persists - what do I do?

I've been told so many different things by so many people suggesting what they think is the best computer security...norton,kaspersky,avg and avast are just some of them. I'm looking for a simple yet resourceful explanation to which would be the best security for my computer. Not sure if the type of computer I have would make a difference (I have a sony vaio). Should I look for a security package that also includes an anti virus and anti spyware ( I think norton includes these) or should I get these separate?

How or where can I download an American version of the Spyware Doctor? All I could find are the Japanese version of it. Its frustrating enough to have my laptop infected with a spyware, and now I can't even download a decent antispyware to get rid of it.

I have a Windows 2000 PC and another PC ( think it is 98 ). Both of them are connected to high speed internet. I think I have a router.

Does this mean that I have a firewall or do I need to get one?

I run ad-aware SE and spybot search & destroy often along with sbc spyware and virus protection. I have a terrible problem with my computer
it keeps informing me that it is infected with spyware and malware.
i cannot keep teh internet browser open for long, it closes out. sometimes there are porn pop ups even though i dont download/watch porn. and i NEVER have. so don't even MENTION that. it is almost impossable to use the computer.
i tell my father that we should restore it
but he refuses becuase we would have to back up alot of music and files
if i dont fix this computer fast i might smash it to pieces!
please help me!

My company is going to send me a computer that I will use at home. I am planning to get a wired router to network my PC now and the computer that my company will send. One thing is bothering me. The company computer that I will receive can be controlled by the IT people from my company at any time. That means, there is a possibility that they can access my PC because they're networked. I just need to share the internet connection to both computers and not sharing files. Is it possible that I can keep them from accessing our PC's hard drive? How can I do that? I really need all the help I can get before my computer arrives and before I set-up my network. Thanks a lot! :-)

Whenever I open a program like windows media player, 2 processes open under the same name (in this case wmplayer.exe) and 1 of them uses 50% of my cpu, I can end the process thats using 50% and media player still works fine , but i'm getting sick of ending a process everytime I open a program. It also happens when I up some other programs; I have run my mcafee virus scan but it doesn't find anything, so if anyone knows anything about virus and could help me, that would be great.

My company is going to send me a computer to use for work here at home. I am going to use wired networking for my PC now and the computer from my company. However, the IT people from my company can control their computer whenever they wan to, and it scares me to know that because that means they may be able to access our PC since they're networked. I also understand that most wired routers nowadays have firewalls in it, but I still want to be very extra careful.

I found out about the Intellimouse with fingerprint scanning and I think it's cool to know that it has to have your fingerprint to be able to login to a certain site. Can anyone share with me how this really works? Lets say I do bank transactions in our PC and I use the fingerprint scanning, will that encrypt my login information from hackers? I have tried to view Microsoft's online tour about this product, but all they explained is about convenience and not security...well, at least, that's how I understood it. :-)
