Reinstall the OS. Once the NTLDR is gone, the computer may not be able to use other programs or even run. So in many cases the "run an antivirus program" is NOT an option. Reinstall the OS.

by any chance do you use Comcast high speed internet? If so, download their free McAfee virus software. I had a huge problem a year ago and although it took a few days to sort everything out, the people at Comcast and at McAfee were awesome.
As an alternative, try www.download.com for free anti-virus software that will clean your computer. It's great!
Good luck... I feel your pain!

You need to do the following:
1. Boot from your XP Setup CD and enter the Recovery Console
2. Enter the command attrib -h -r -s c:\boot.ini
3. Delete the file (del c:\boot.ini)
4. Run bootcfg /rebuild
5. Run fixboot
Follow these steps exactly in this order, this will then repair the files that have been corrupted.

Boot to safe mode by continually tapping F8 key while booting. If you see the windows flag you have gone too far and need to boot again. When you get to black and white dos screen choose the Safe Mode. Then run your anti-virus and anti-spyware by laying mouse on generic icons until you find your programs and run them from there. good luck.
