Security - December 2006

I have blocked access for limewire now after finding out it can give me viruses etc. I downloaded about 50 songs earlier today, my security is protecting, i checked. am i still at risk?

I'm trying to play a couple of games at work while it is slow but I can't connect because I'm assuming port 43594 is closed to TCP traffic. Is there any way to open that, or get around that somehow without admin status? Our network is monitored by a company called Websense I believe. And the proxy port is 8080.

Incase of an administrator account try rebooting the pc in DOS. access C:\Windows\system32\config\sam . Rename SAM as SAM.mj
Now XP wont ask for password next time You Login.

See there must be an admin password cuz when I boot in safemode a password is still requested. Now I dont know where I would type in the step Ive pasted above. So, how do I boot in dos where I would get top the option of typing something in? Even when I go in in safemode with command prompt I am still asked for a password.

I have a sony vaio laptop about 1.5 years old prolly, running windows xp professional.

I know about going into safemode, but a password is still requested. So I go into safemode with prompt-but there are no prompts, a password is still requested. ANyway I start the computer, no matter what mode, a password is ALWAYS requested. Ive had the same answer a few times about renaming SAM and stuff-but I never get to a point where I CAN do this. No matter what, the computer asks me for a password. What are my options from here to get past the password I dont know?

when this window pops up it prevents the use of e-mail and until I can find either my network password or how to stop this window popping up I am unable to access my contacts, my notes,tasks e.t.c.any help apreciated

For no apparent reason today, Windows Security Centre reckons that my firewall (Kerio) and antivirus software (AVG) aren't there, which is a load of crap because they're plainly both turned on and their icons are sitting right next to that annoying little Windows Security Alert icon in the system tray. Short of turning off the Windows Alerts, does anyone have any suggestions as to what it's playing at? Thanks.

I went into my internet explorer tools/internet options, and I changed a few settings. Now I have these Active X icons showing up on my desktop. How do I stop them from taking over my desktop?
They look like notepages, and I know that they are not hurting anything, but I didn't have them before and now I do, and they are taking over...help! I keep having to delete them from my desktop.

How do I get rid of them, and how do I stop them from returning?

I need to lock certain applications on my computer and certain things in control Panel, my son cant help but fiddle with settings and open programs that I need for work that I dont want him to.

I would prefer to use things built into XP and not download programs, if I had to do that it would be nice if it was free and virus free.

Any Ideas????

around these days,my pc internet access speed become very..very........... slow, and sometimes couldnot open some pages that used to be availble.
i also checked my pc with free online avast antivirus program, and it said no virus found on memory and files.
and there is always emerging the security alert box and recommend to re-register in some websites like www.regwinclean.com or refreshxp.com and etc ; everytimes this box come out, there is always different websites.

so i would like to know what is wrong with this problem and how to solve it out!
