First of all your using Norton. That's mistake number 1, I don't know if you have mistake number 2 or not but using Norton could take up 1 through 10.
Uninstall Norton... do it now! And if you want to pay for one, check out Kaspersky Labs, http://www.kaspersky.com/ (which is Cnet Editors' Choice for 2006 among ALL anti-virus programs). They also offer an all-in-one suite in the form of Kaspersky Internet Security. It also recieved the "Best of Breed" award from PC World. Don't see Norton winning any of that, do you? Of course not, because Norton sucks.
Barring that you can download a "free" version of Kaspersky that is offered by AOL of all things in the form of Active Virus Shield, http://www.activevirusshield.com/antivirus/freeav/index.adp?
Or you can run Kaspersky's free online scanner, http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
but above all things, please please, rid yourself of Norton... do it now!

1: Dump Norton for either Kaspersky or Nod32. Norton is a resource hog and not as good as either Kas or Nod.
2:TrendMicro only scans for free. Cleaning is now a pay for service. Try http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html it's free.
Kaspersky is rated number 1 with Nod32 a close contender but hampered by the fact that it's much more complicated. Kas has kept me malware free for over a year now.
Also use adaware and spybot search and destroy weekly as backups.
For Hijack this go to http://www.techsupportforum.com/ and register (it's free) for instruction on usage. If you're not extremely familiar with Windows processes you can totally screw your system.

Update and run your Anti-Virus program. Don't have one? You can run a free online scan from Trendmicro. When I have tested it it takes some time to run it but it may be time well spent if it can fix any problems.
Download and run http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Download, update and run Spybot---http://www.safer-networking.org/ . Don't forget to use the Immunize feature.
Download, update and run Adaware---http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/products/select_your_product.php
Download HijackThis---http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/programs.php#hijackthis. Run and Save a Log. When you log comes up copy and paste the entire log at http://www.hijackthis.de/ . Analyze your results. You will then get a screen that will tell you if you have any nasty stuff in your computer. Follow instructions to deal with any nasties. CAUTION: This is a very powerful tool. Be careful.

If you feel any virus is not detected you can install another antivirus. I can give a few links that offer free virus and spyware removers...!You may be having a virus or spyware installed on your PC. Norton, AVG , Avast are free antivirus software. Ad-aware, Ewido are free spyware removers. You can download free softwares at
http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html
I advise, if antivirus and spyware remover software does not work, you can try to restore the computer to an older working configuration. Detailed instructions are posted at http://fixit.in/systemrestore.html

Norton is a crap. Replace with AVG free, from http://free.grisoft.com/ .
Tip: Do not use two anti-viruses together.
