Sounds like spyware. Here are some solutions for ya...
Update and run your Anti-Virus program. Don't have one? You can run a free online scan from Trendmicro. When I have tested it it takes some time to run it but it may be time well spent if it can fix any problems.
Download and run http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Download, update and run Spybot---http://www.safer-networking.org/ . Don't forget to use the Immunize feature.
Download, update and run Adaware---http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/products/select_your_product.php
Download SpywareBlaster---http://majorgeeks.com/download2859.html
SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and clean for spyware - it prevents it from ever being installed.
It's main features include:
- Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
- Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
- Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Download CleanUp---http://www.stevengould.org/software/cleanup/
Free disk space, make your computer run better/faster and protect your privacy - all in one easy solution. All for free
Download RegScrubXP--http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2048
Safely cleans junk out of the Windows 2000/XP system registry. All changes made to the registry are fully restorable to it's original condition. You can make an exclusion list of registry entries that RegScrubXP will not display as problems. You can sift through a list of file extensions, company names, run upon startup programs, Internet Explorer history, and uninstall programs to delete what you think is junk.
Do a disk cleanup and disk defrag.
Start>all programs>accessories>system tools>click on disk cleanup.
Go to the same path again and click on disk defrag.
Enjoy your cleaner and faster computer.

There are two main measures of network speed, bandwidth and latency. Bandwidth is the width of the pipe, Latency is the minimum time for a packet of information to be delivered from source to destination. Different measurement units tend to be for different nations. 256KBps, 512KBps, 8Mbps are raw measurements, but some places talk T1/T2/T3/OC3. The other factor of speed is that a server at the other end is responding to your request, and that processing to deliver a response can cause a delay as well as the servers network speed (that can be flooded). Other factors like your own station processing, viruses, spyware and network assaults can cause internet speed to falter. try ipconfig from a cmd line, and ping the default gateway address. thuis will give you a latency. It also depends on where the source and destination are, the quantity of hops (or junction points) in between. Windows XP SP2 has a concurrent connection limit The Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU)

An internet connection can become slow or stop working due to a number of reasons depending on the type of the connection. Many of the problems can be solved by making software changes or small hardware corrections. Detailed instructions at http://tinyurl.com/yl62gz

A wide range of things may be at the source of your problem. 1) You only need one virus to slow your machine to a crawl. Not all anti-virus programs find all viruses. A suite of not-for-free AV programs may be necessary. (Read: a pro and a $100). 2) one of your AV programs may be incompatible with one or more other programs. It may be forever checking stuff. 3) Screensavers are notorious for being nuisances because they insinate themselves into every program in order to cut in on time. 4) Free music files are rich sources of imbedded crap, largely data-miners and other cookies. They're not viruses at all, but you need to clean them out regularly. Here's a quick and free routine to start, assuming you have a program as sophisticated as Norton or McAfee. First, go to Lavasoft.com and download Ad-Aware SE Personal. Load it and run a full scan. Then run Norton, or McAfee, or whatever reputable AV program you have. Then run Disk Clean-Up. If you download a lot of music files, DCU analysis could take up to 12 hours! Let it run overnight. Then click to clean up the garbage. This could take equal time. Then run disk defrag analysis. Same deal. Then run defrag itself. Same deal. Don't be discouraged. This whole process could take from a couple of hours up to a couple of days. There are other things you can do, like cleaning the registry, or re-formatting your drive, but unless you really know what you're doing, I'd leave this to someone who does. You sound like you're still in the "I can get it all for free on the Web" phase of computing, so step carefully. That time-trial AV program that filtered the front door to your computer is, after it expires, just one more bag of garbage blocking your front door. Don't assume that it just steps aside to let a competitor's trial-run program take its place. Also, Windows is a notorious junk collector. It saves bits and pieces of everything. This is why you may need to spend the $100. Good luck. :-)

you seem to be full of cookies and web history, do a disk cleanup and a defrag of your hard drive.. if you are using Internet explorer start it up, at the top you will see tools click on that, drop down menu, down to internet options click on it, from that menu, click on delete cookies, delete files, and clear history, also make history zero (0) days that way you won't save all the websites you have visited
after that do a defrag of your hard drive
