Yes, there are some really smart people out there. If they get in the can see any and all information you can see sitting right in front of the computer. Here is a site to tighten up your security. It won't help if he already has what he wants.
Update and run your Anti-Virus program. Don't have one? You can run a free online scan from Trendmicro. When I have tested it it takes some time to run it but it may be time well spent if it can fix any problems.
Download and run http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Download, update and run Spybot---http://www.safer-networking.org/ . Don't forget to use the Immunize feature.
Download, update and run Adaware---http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/products/select_your_product.php
Download SpywareBlaster---http://majorgeeks.com/download2859.html
SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and clean for spyware - it prevents it from ever being installed.
It's main features include:
- Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
- Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
- Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Download HijackThis---http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/programs.php#hijackthis. Run and Save a Log. When you log comes up copy and paste the entire log at http://www.hijackthis.de/ . Analyze your results. You will then get a screen that will tell you if you have any nasty stuff in your computer. Follow instructions to deal with any nasties. CAUTION: This is a very powerful tool. Be careful.
Please read and apply the tips found at the link below.
The Internet is not a safe place if you go online without securing your computer. The information here may seem like a lot to absorb, especially for novice computer users, yet if you are patient and take each item one at a time you will soon realize how uncomplicated this really is. Following these protection guidelines is an absolute must in today's online world.
After applying everything listed here you are lowering your vulnerability to almost zero; however nothing will ever protect you 100%, and don't ever believe anyone who claims otherwise.

1) When you are not online, physically unplug the modem from the phone line. No one can hack in over a disconnected line.
2) Use dial up. You don't want a static IP address like you get with broadband. You'll get a new IP adddress every time you log in. If he doesn't know your IP address he can't find your pc to hack it.
3) Use Comodo firewall.
4) Only access the internet from a sandbox on a limited account, not the admin account and not the guest account.
5) Never store your personal details on your pc; not your name or address, phone number or bank details. If its not there he can't find it.
6) Regulkarly scan for trojans, spyware and keystroke loggers. Use AVG anti spyware and Spywareblaster and Spybot Search and Destroy.
7) Check you are online in Stealth Mode, if he can't find your pc he can't hack it.
Use the Shields Up website.
http://www.sandboxie.com
http://www.mozilla.com/ - Firefox web browser.
http://www.comodogroup.com/ - Comodo firewall.
You need all three anti spyware programs;
http://www.ewido.net - AVG(Ewido) anti trojan.
http://www.lavasoft.com - Ad-Aware SE Personal anti adware
http://www.safer-networking.org - Spybot Search and Destroy anti spyware. Use the Teatimer settings to protect Internet Explorer, and the Immuniser to stop malware getting on your pc.
Also use Microsoft Defender and their online scans.
Spywareblaster works with Internet Explorer and Firefox. It won't uninstall spyware that is already on your pc, but it will prevent hijacks and other malicious changes to your browser.

Use a Dynamic IP address for starters. Also, as long as you dont have your address written anywhere in your computer, you are safe. The most someone can do without breaking into a program you have an address written is to find out what city your Internet Provider is in.

Take him out.....or hire somebody too. Or like someone said up there, Get armed and let em' find ya. Your address is the least of your problems if you are worried about this office space wanna be hacking into your computer. Main Concerns: Paypal, any online stores you may regularly purchase from, ebay, any stock acct's or bank accts that u tap into on that particular cpu. Get Symantec security software.....thats what the military uses and update it everyday.

This is definetly possible.
He can do it into two ways. Easy one is to hack your computer and track ip adresses that your PC has comunication with. Then hack's those and find if you inputed your adress there. Like Amazon for example. Then Just don't give your adress.
The other way would be hacking your computer and tracking your MAC adress then finding out from where you bought your computer and search in that area. You cant do anything about this way.

the 1st answer is right disconnect all the time you are not using your pc. also i recently took mine to pc world to expand the memory and they told me i had spyware on it so we had to delete the whole memory and reinstal windows etc. talk to the guys there, they dont charge for advice. spyware means they can see whats on your screen and every button you push on your keypad, passwords etc.
the problem is a computer is a machine as long as you know its language you can tell it to do whatever you want. if you are worried don't you internet banking ever from any computer. point of intrest i saw a show about the people who design and run the internet banking sites and NONE not one of them feel it is safe to use none of them have an internet banking account.

It is true someone can hack in to your computer so what I would do is that if you get an e-mail that you do not recognize report it as spam and they will not be able to e-mail you anymore.
