A computer that is not constantly kept secure and up to date is vulnerable to many different attacks. Try AVG free!

Problems are caused by bad people constantly looking for new holes in XP security. They continue to find them, so Microsoft continues to issue updates. This is a good thing, and it's free, so really you should put up with the minor interruption and an occasional reboot.

They issue updates only once per month, unless there's a really scary emergency. Don't turn it off. It prevents bad people from turning your PC into a zombie, capturing your passwords, etc.

ALL operating systems (and applications) require regular security updates. Windows is NOT unique to that. I've got several distros of Linux running as well and I get security updates and patches for the OS and bundled apps almost daily. Apple recently released about a dozen critical patches for OS-X.

The basic reason behind this is that all of the code is written by humans. Humans are not perfect and will NEVER be able to write perfectly secure computer code. It might be fairly easy to master relatively simple tasks, but computer programming is exceedingly complex and will never be truly mastered.

95 % of all computers use Windows...therefore they are the most targeted OS. So I ould not turn the alerts off, either download the alerts or buy an Apple.
