I run adaware and spybot and such, and im running avg right now, which i havent done in like 2 weeks. but 3 days ago i had like 51% open hard drive space, and i check tonite and i have 35%, so i went through cleaning out folders, looking for spyware and stuff. but could i have a virus? i have another 30 min probly until i find out. but just wanted to know if thats what it could be. thanks

I doubt it. Viruses do not consume loads of disk space, they are small and usually spread to small Operating System Files in your C:\windows folder.

If your space is diminishing, you can see if your Temporary Internet files folder has ballooned.

One easy way is to right click on any folder, then click 'Properties'. It will tell you how much space (in megabytes) that folder is taking up.

Just make sure to erase only cache files, that are not Windows System files.

You could have if:
1. Your Programs aren't running smoothly as before,
2. there is a dialog box which says: I want a cookie and it will not be gone unless you type the word cookie or,
3. Your Antivirus Program reports it.

No, it is not virus, it could be music file or video file saved on hard drive those files take a lot of space, check that.

It may be a virus. I can give you a link that deals with hard drive problems. Some RAM/ hard drive problems can be easily fixed yourself by using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful

Yeah, viruses do not take in 136 gbs of area. they frequently take 4-500 kb. that is probably unsolicited mail, non everlasting files, and classes. yet there likely are a handfull of trojans, viruses, and malware software on your pc also.

could be but more likely windows updates downloaded some updates or may you installed some new program?
