My fantastic grandson found a way to lock the computer. The only way to start the computer is to turn it on, turn it off, and turn it on again. It states that the administrator can help but how do I get him/her?

Dont recall where i heard it ,but could someone point me to a link about this issue. Googling it just seems to bring up that the icon ensures a safe site, but I've heard otherwise somewhere. Help me out if you have info. I hear that fake sites are now somehow able aquire the "padlock" icon now. Please dont bother to answer with "Yeah padlock icons guarantee encryption" ,you may force me to give you a bad flag for trying to gain points.=D sorry

Why Vista?

Throughout the (longer than expected) development of Vista, Microsoft has worked hard to push the idea that it wouldn't be burdened by the same sort of security problems as older versions of Windows. The company has beefed up the built-in security features and services of the software, much to the chagrin of some third-party security developers and the European Union, and one of its execs gave people the idea that Vista wouldn't need anti-virus software. Given all that, it's still not surprising to hear that researchers and hackers have found plenty of flaws in Vista, even before it's been released to consumers. It's the same type of stuff that's plagued Windows XP, like a browser flaw and a user-privileges hack, and just the sort of thing most people were expecting despite the company's incessant talk about Vista being more secure.

My friend has an Acer desktop PC, the same as mine. He got some viruses (he thinks). There is a function on the systems tools menu to restore back to a date of your choice. Acer computers also have a data security management system, which allows you to restore to factory settings. Will any of these remove viruses, spyware, etc?

Thanks

I just got a laptop and I live in an apartment complex. My laptop picked up a lot of wireless signals and I could just connect to anyones wireless network to connect to the computer. How safe can that be? What are the risks of doing that? Will other people using that same network be able to access my files? I don't know how that works. Can someone explain to me how password hacking can be done when connecting to these kinds of unprotected networks? Is there a way that I can protect myself from others using the same network from sniffing my passwords?

One more thing, I have not bought a wireless router yet, but when I do, does the ISC (internet sharing computer) has to be turned ON to be able to connect to the wireless network?
