Better have both. There are antivirus programs with firewall. If you want free antivirus programs, try AVG or Avira AntiVir. Also try Norton, McAfee, or Spyware Doctor. You can browse at the sites below to find more antivirus softwares.

You do not need to download pirated (stolen) software for protection. Nor do you need to purchase anything. There are plenty of free and legal and very effective solutions for you.

An excellent free firewall is Comodo Personal Firewall. It can pass firewall "leak tests" that even most of the "paid-for" firewalls cannot pass.

And Comodo has a great support forum. Where the CEO / President of the company might even himself answer your question! Check it out at:

I like AOL AntiVirusShield. Don't let the name AOL fool you. AntiVirusShield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.

In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, AntiVirusShield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.

AntiVirusShield has excellent virus detection rates and is extremely light on using your computer resources. (6mb)

And it updates 15 to 20 times a day with new virus definitions, 7 days a week.

Free to anyone, AOL member or not from:

Good luck.

The most important thing for Internet security is to have a router. If you use a router then get the free anti-virus & firewall. It should do the job.

I use zone alarm firewall and norton anti-virus, but next year when my subscriptions run out I will download the free package from my internet provider.
