I spent 5 hours trying to get 3 month old Compaq laptop to go online last night. Then I accidently find link to Symantec that says to disable e-mail worm detection. I did it and now no problems, and It runs faster overall. What a joke! The last four pc's I was asked to "look at" all ran miserably slow, with POS Norton product constantly popping up with scary "Needs fixing immediately" or "Update Now?" followed by "YOUR SUBSCRIPTION HAS EXPIRED! - PLEASE GIVE US MONEY SO THAT YOU CAN USE YOUR COMPUTER " The ought to be a law or a class action suit, IMO.

Hi, I am looking at registry cleaners to purchase and install on my computer. The two top recommendations I've seen from "Ask a Nerd.com are:

"XP Medic" (this scan found 119 errors and is made specifically for Windows XP and cost slightly more than the product below).

and

"Registry Patrol" (this products scan found 162 errors)

Can anyone tell me if they know anything about either product?

As well, I'm squeamish about purchasing online and would prefer not to, but I have been unable to locate either product through local vendors, but each site has an option of paying through Pay Pal.

Does anyone know of payment safety through the Pay Pal feature regarding online safety? I have never used this before, and wish to look thoroughly before I leap!

Any advice would be helpful, thanks!

Have a wonderful day, too!

What is the best antivirius, firewall and anti-spy/spam? It doesn't matter if it's all single (like zonealarm, norton, etc.,). Or if it's a package deal like Norton Internet security suite.

However I want them to all work together as I understand Norton antivirus does not work with some others.

Is McAfree good?

What's going to stop those weird things like 008k.Com? Coolweb, etc.?

I want to make my folders in an USB External HD private and I know how to do it, but when I go to check the box that says to check to make private in the security option, it is "grayed" out and will not let me check it. What must I do, or what am I doing wrong?? It is NTFS formatted as my desktop is. Hope you understand my question. Thanks to all. I would LIKE to make the complete External HD completley passworded protected if that is possible.I have search the Internet and I have found a site that says to make sure that under system tasks make sure that show contents of drive is checked. I do not see an option to show contents of drive.
