I spent 5 hours trying to get 3 month old Compaq laptop to go online last night. Then I accidently find link to Symantec that says to disable e-mail worm detection. I did it and now no problems, and It runs faster overall. What a joke! The last four pc's I was asked to "look at" all ran miserably slow, with POS Norton product constantly popping up with scary "Needs fixing immediately" or "Update Now?" followed by "YOUR SUBSCRIPTION HAS EXPIRED! - PLEASE GIVE US MONEY SO THAT YOU CAN USE YOUR COMPUTER " The ought to be a law or a class action suit, IMO.

Please note that I have no Symantec products on any of my pc's. The computers I'm "whining about" belong to friends of mine.

All any antivirus software does is scan for programs that take advantage of existing flaws in the OS that have known exploits! The real question is, why do you use an OS that has so many exploits in the wild? No OS will ever be perfect, but no other OS is so full of security issues as Windows. Use Linux on your PC or get a Macintosh. If you don't do either, then quit your whining. You're supporting the virus writers, so you shouldn't complain about them.

Norton is not that great. MacAfee is better. ZoneAlarm is the best. The most comprehensive, protective program around. Get it!
One more thing - COMPAQs are terrible. You should try to get a different computer, too.

hey yours question is funny to me i have had them all and they are all junk in my book and they all will slow your computer down the solution to your problem is get avg by grisoft and adaware se by lavasoft they are the best and search and destroy spybot is good too if you pay for it off the original site that offers it for sale the other two that i mentioned are also free and they dont do anything bad to your computer or slow it down i pay for all these downloads and i get alot of protection but they are free for anyone who cant pay right away well that is all i know to help you merry christmas
