My friend has an Acer desktop PC, the same as mine. He got some viruses (he thinks). There is a function on the systems tools menu to restore back to a date of your choice. Acer computers also have a data security management system, which allows you to restore to factory settings. Will any of these remove viruses, spyware, etc?

Thanks

You can try setting it back to factory setting but if that doesn't work then you probably have worm or Trojan. If it a worm or Trojan you need to have the bios done. I have no clue how to do it but my dad had to do it to my dell.He had to clean out the hard drive and he got the dell bio off the Internet.Tell your Friend Good luck with it. He might have to take it to a computer repair shop.

Have AVG install after the viruse is gone. It very good and free.

You could try this option if you can't use the system restore program.

FIRST RUN YOUR ANTI VIRUS SOFTWARE TO TRY AND DELETE ANY UNWANTED INFECTION'S.

TO RESET YOUR PC TO FACTORY SETTINGS
Before you try using the system recovery program I would suggest using system restore:
if software on you hard drive accidentally gets erased or damaged, first use Microsoft system restore to return the computer's settings to a selected restore point without affecting user programs or document files. "how ever"
when other methods of repairing your system software fail then you may want to use the system recovery program as a last resort to reinstall software.

WARNING SYSTEM RECOVERY WILL DELETE ANY DATA OR PROGRAM THAT YOU INSTALLED AFTER PURCHASE,
BE SURE TO BACK UP ANY DATA THAT YOU WANT TO KEEP ON A REMOVABLE DISC

1.Disconnect any devices, like printer, scanner, webcam,
Except the monitor, keyboard, mouse
1. click start on the task bar
2. choose all programs
3. choose PC tools
and then click system recovery
4. wait until the system recovery box appears asking do you really want to start PC system recovery,, click yes
follow on screen instructions.
5.complete the computer start-up and finish the registration process, then reconnect all devices.
good luck.

Some computer or laptops come with system cd that able to reinstall whole OS. The restore here, is only helping you to install back the setting that you had change. It may not able to remove viruses, spyware, etc. If you don't have any antivirus or spyware software, you can use the system cd to help. But only OS are reinstall, other application may need to install by cd.

I am a professional developer with Microsoft, and have about 10 years of experience in the field of Computer Engineering. Most problems with PC's are the result of malicious software that infected a Computer. Examples of this are things such as malware, viruses, trojans, spyware, adware, root kits, and worms. In other cases, they are the result of stability issues due to crashes, freezes, or Hardware Issues. Some examples of hardware issues could be a dirty cooling fan causing the computer to overheat, or low memory due to lack of RAM, which could cause the PC to run slowly. You may think it could be a virus, or malware, or registry issues, but it could be something else entirely. As a computer layman, one may find it hard to really ascertain what exactly is causing the problems, without having a professional do an in depth analysis of your PC.

As professional computer repairs can be quite costly, I would recommend to you a Software that many of us in the tech department here at Microsoft use personally and professionally to diagnose and repair computer problems very quickly. It is a software called Reimage, from https://reimagefix.im .. In my personal experience, and in the experience of many of my associates, this is probably the best software ever created for those experiencing computer troubles. This is likely to remedy just about ANY problem your computer could possibly be having, and have it running like new. Reimage has won several awards, and been featured in publications such as PC Mag.

no , the restore won't help get rid of a virus, first try a good anti virus, he can download spybot from spybot.com for free, and try to get rid of it, or have Microsoft windows do a scan on his computer by going to their site as well, but if all fails, he can to a total restore , using the original discs and following the directions , which will bring the PC back to new but he will lose all his files/ programs etc he has on it now.good luck!

If your friends computer is constantly crashing due to a virus, worm or trojan then the best method is to Combine a complete scan of all of the above. This can be done by putting your computer in SAFE MODE . By doing this you can download FREE A V G Virus Scan at www.grisoft.com and then go to
www.download .com and Download Free Spybot S&D If you take the option of SAFE MODE then revisit this site [B T Answers] and i or someone else will give you Step by Step Instructions as to how to go about this procedure. If your friend already knows how to go about this procedure then there is no need for you to re-visit this site for instructions.
