are from Microsoft? Do they sell spyware programs for other people to place on your computer, or do they place them there themselves? Also, what is the purpose of a data miner, does it steal passwords or just track what pages you visit on the web, or something else?

Whilst surfing the net someone plastered my PC with a Virus. My Internet Explorer 7 now has a permanent home page "telling me" that... my PC MAY have been infected and directing me to a website that, for a payment, will clear it. I Have PC-Tools and McAfee. PCTools seemed at first to have picked up the virus but it i still have int explorer 7 affected. I can use the PC and access Yahoo normally through Mozilla Firefox. I have scanned the PC using McAfee and also with PC Tools to no avail. I am trying not to have to re-install the OS (XP-Pro) so I am desperate for a solution. QUESTION: Internet Exp 7 infected is it a malicious *.dll ? Or a *.EXE hidden somewhere ? Where can it be found and therefore deleted ? I have uninstalled and then re-installed IE7 but the problem remains. Any help would be very much appreciated.

I have Windows XP and IE7.0...is there any way to limit one account without password protecting the whole account. What I want is to be able to allow access to a general account on the computer, but not allow e-mail, IM's, etc. I just want this account to be able to access the web for searches, research sites and such. Is this an option, and if so where do I find what I need to know to set this up?

I read a shocking story in the metro yesterday which talked about a guy hacking into young girls computers and forced them to do obscene things otherwise he would destroy their computers by giving them a lethal virus. He apparently was able to read all the girls msn messages while they were sending them.

i mean is this really possible, to read your msn messages as you send them and send you viruses on demand?

And also is it possible for someone on your msn list to just hack your computer?
If so is there a way to prevent this?

I've been having problems and figured I should do a virus-scan. AVG showed I had 875 infections and 1 virus. I have it set to automatically clean , but that wasn't the case. Therefore, I put in the Virus Vault and resumed cleaning. It refuses to discard it. I get a message stating:
Action Failed... Error while handling file.
It's in C:\windows\temporary internet files\content.IE5/0xqrchyr\2_z[1].htm and the name is just Exploit. I did another scan and it shows absolutely nothing, but I'm still having the same problems and that virus is still sitting in my vault. I am clueless!!!
Please Help

I immediatelly need an anti-virus software for my PC. Could you suggest a free but most effective anti-virus software?

I'd be thankful if you could answer the following queries as well:

1. Can we have two or more anti-virus softwares on the same PC?

2. In the above case, whether they both will be killing the virus?

3. I access internet on my PC. Whether the anti-virus automatically remains operational to identify and kill the virus after the installation. Or shall we have to order it to do so?
