ok, We know that RAM usually is 333MHz or 450, 667 or even 800MHz, and CPU speeds are usually 1.8GHz or 3.0GHz.

but what is the usual motherboard main speed, the FSB speed range?

Also, is the FSB the North Bridge in the Accelerated Hub Architecture?

I am going to buy the E6850 chip as the price is MUCH lower than the top Quad-core chip and the performance differences are neglible. ...however, as Quad Core support games are going to be released in the next few years or so, I would hate to have to buy a new computer to take full advantage of it. Are there any motherboards that support the 1333MHz FSB and are easily upgradeable to a quad-core chip when the prices drop?

My nano is completely dead. The buttons don't work, the screen doesn't work, and the boot up doesn't work. My question is: can I make it an external harddrive w/o being able to open the files? It is unrecognized by windows, but shows up in management. What drivers or files can I get to fix this.

NOTES: I have the latest itunes and ipod updater.
It shows up in the pop up window, but not in "My Computer".
IT IS DEAD...except for the usb and harddrive.
I just want a harddrive, not an ipod.

I recently bought and installed a new DVD-RW drive, Pioneer DVR-112D. It's the only drive plugged into my secondary IDE channel and it's set to master. The computer recognizes it, its name is listed in device manager and everything... but it cannot read or write CDs and DVDs. For example, when i try to play an audio CD in windows media player, the tracklist comes up with the songnames and evertying in the playlist window, but then it says "Windows Media Player cannot read the CD. The disc might be dirty or damaged or the CD drive might be malfunctioning." When I try to burn a CD using Nero, it says "Burn process failed" and the blank CD is then ruined. I've tried firmware update, but it does not help.

I also recently bought and returned a Sony DRU-820A burner and ran into similar problems, which probably means the problem is not the drives but my computer.

Do you think a BIOS upgrade may solve the problem?

Can you use an adapter to connect the moniter through COM A or B port? Or a USB port. Do all MOBO's have On Board Video or do they have to specify it? I know most have On Board Sound but I haven't seen On Board Video on mine. This is a MOBO that a few years old. Someone said to connect to On Board Video instead of a Graphics card. As I am having trouble figuring out a AGP problem.

Whats a good program to over clock a graphics card?

Im thinkin of gettin, and over clocking a 256MB Palit AT-FX GeForce 8600GT PCI-E

And if i did overclock it, how much would u reccomend me to overclock it too, to be on the safe side.
And would i need a better cooler or anything new to keep the OC'd GPU in good form and safe?

I have a PCI-E socket before anyone asks.

I play a few games, such as need for speed carbon, f.e.a.r, football manager and some online games such as runescape.

I just want a fairly cheap graphics card which has enough power to keep me going with that card for a few years.

So whats better, ATi OR nVidia?

And for what i want a graphics card for, what would suffice me perfectly?

I have a £60-£70 budget (Approx. $120-140USD.)

I have looked at dx10 cards such as the nVidia 8600 range, and thr dx10 ATi cards such as the HD2600 range.

I have also looked at the ATi x1950 range of cards, and would one of these 3 cards i mentioned be ok...

the 1950 is more expensive, and i dont kno if i need it to be that good.

Thanks.
I have also looked at the nVidia dx9 cards around the price but can only find the 7600 range, which according to the latest custompc magazine it says it cant handle modern games very well.

I have a Sapphire Radeon X800GTO 256mb GDDR3 AGP video card. When I'm playing World of Warcraft my video just dies after 30minutes and the monitor goes into stand by. My drivers are all up-to-date and I've tried both Omega and Catalyst and I've tried older drivers, nothing works. If I can get the task manager up really fast before the monitor sleeps then my computer acts like the video card drivers were uninstalled until I restart the computer. Windows XP says the source of the problem is ati2mag.sys . I'm not the greatest with this kind of stuff so I don't know how to fix it, though I built this computer. My CPU is an AMD Venice 3000+ (2.0GHz) Socket 754, Gigabyte K8NS motherboard, 2GB ddr400 memory, 650w psu. I'm not sure what could be causing this, it started about 3 weeks ago. Any help you guys can give would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.
