Alright i just bought a new dvd burner that uses ide. I want to use an eide cable on it but ive notice some have a closed pin hole, like this:

How will that eide cable work when there is a pin in the place where the closed pin hole is

I would personally wait to see if the burner comes with a cable. But if it doesnt i would stick with what the burner suggests, ide.

No difference, all PATA (that is considered proper name for it now, same as ATA, IDE, EIDE) cables have that closed pin. That cable will work just fine with your burner.

Hi. The hole (or lack thereof) is there to prevent just what you are attempting. I would not modify the cable. Just get a proper one.
