My nano is completely dead. The buttons don't work, the screen doesn't work, and the boot up doesn't work. My question is: can I make it an external harddrive w/o being able to open the files? It is unrecognized by windows, but shows up in management. What drivers or files can I get to fix this.

NOTES: I have the latest itunes and ipod updater.
It shows up in the pop up window, but not in "My Computer".
IT IS DEAD...except for the usb and harddrive.
I just want a harddrive, not an ipod.

The nano is a flash drive, not a hard-drive player.

have you tried re-setting the player. As I remember
1: Slide hold on then off.
2: hold the middle button and menu.

Unless you enabled Manual sync and/or use as external drive, you're out of luck.
